Largest drug "super lab" in Canada's history busted with record amount of fentanyl, chemicals and guns seized
Wait.... So they fly this stuff all the way from Canadia to Mexico and then have the Guatemalans sneak across our open borders into Texas to kill kids? Ohhhhhh. Now I got it.

My wife, newly hired, was asked to un-blur her camera during a routine meeting to confirm her I9 information. This seems like a violation to me?
It seems like you are getting more knee jerk than actual answers here. There is no evidence of any discrimination in asking to deblur the camera by itself. It also has nothing to do with an I9 validation. The I9 validation is checking for employment eligibility and citizenship status and that's it. See below for the remote procedures. The employer's obligation is to be consistent in the procedure and not discriminatory with the procedure based on race, gender, etc. I just think that HR drone is a dumbass.
Lastly, I think based on your other response to another poster she should take the job and just be keenly aware if anyone else in HR asks other funny stuff. There can always be dumbasses in every department and that's not a reflection of their ability to be lawful or a bad company. I also think it's worth reporting the person if they keep doing funny stuff.
From USCIS: Remote Examination of Documents Procedures: Examine copies (front and back, if the document is two-sided) of Form I-9 documents or an acceptable receipt to ensure that the documentation presented reasonably appears to be genuine and relates to the employee; Conduct a live video interaction with the individual presenting the document(s) to ensure that the documentation reasonably appears to be genuine and relates to the individual. The employee must first transmit a copy of the document(s) to the employer (per Step 1 above) and then present the same document(s) during the live video interaction; and Retain a clear and legible copy of the documentation (front and back if the documentation is two-sided).

That's a crime scene and a death scene. It's not going to go quickly. The good news is that it's a critical roadway and waterway intersection so the feds and state government have motivation to make haste.

ELI5 How did people steal PPP loans? Was it really easy or did they just know how to get around the red tape and stuff?
My company filed for two PPP loans to keep afloat. Any company could have just kept making money and the owners could have pocketed the cash. There were expectations that employees were not fired and other questions in the application that I can't recall. When we applied for forgiveness on the loans we provided tax receipts and staff numbers over time. I'm sure it would have been pretty straightforward to lie or find someone to lie for you (accountant with less than stellar ethics).

Pelosi Won. The Democratic Party Lost.
When she won the Speaker vote she immediately came out and said she would focus on bringing the Demo party back together. Not ensuring the country gets the best product... But ensuring they were as tight as possible. That told me what she really cares about. Don't even look at her stock purchase history... Shit.

Do you think the problem is that the person driving the requirements doesn't know what they actually want?
I think a good BA is critical to the process because lots of end users have no idea how to put their ideas onto paper.
I also think an MVP helps a lot because people can see and touch it which helps focus their needs.

My only comment here is that I run a small business and decisions can occur that I don't always see up front and with which they negatively impact employees or customers. I also know many large clients where the leadership delegates decisions down to sometimes stupid or misguided staff. The balance here comes to how a leader reacts when they learn of the hurtful actions and is there an opportunity for change.
