i used to scrupulously edit my spelling and grammar mistakes online, but now i keep them because they prove I'm human.

Yeah I never heard about them being usrd to signify pauses in speech. I'm not a native speaker but I think in general they are used to separate "sentences" (they have a verb and all that shit), interleaving sentences, and lists of items. Ofc there is a lot of nuance, for example, this sentence, and there are cases when commas should be left out (afaik). In my language I would always put a comma before "but" or "because" but in English it seems the words themselves separate the sentences. Anyway, shit is weird, English is very random.

When is it justified to use AI-generated images?

Honestly my main issue is that this gives more power to the corporations who can steal any content and then sell it as a subscription.

Even local generative AI is ethically sus, but as an occasional pirate I don't have any moral high ground. I don't really mind as long as its user in a way that doesn't harm the jobs of the artists (which it often does).

Quality wise, realistic images are often sloppy but I too am starting to fail to notice sometimes, which doesn't feel good if it's something that can misinform me. Recently I played for some hours with an anime based model, and I have no chance telling what is real there. But it still really drew home the fact that it lacks some of the artistic expression. No matter how much you write in the prompt you can't control all the details with intent like the artist does, and you're at the mercy of the model on anything that you leave to interpretation. And if the model doesn't have enough data on what you want it will just break down. So it only works as long as you have a relatively vague idea and don't care about the specifics. Which is why I also think it can't replace anyone as long as the audience cares about intent being there and being consistent (which again often they don't care).

Anyway, I consider these models to basically be creating interpolations of existing art now.

Manga

There is now so much manga and light novel titles that I kinda understand why they do this. It is hard to decide what to even click on, and if I can't even tell what genre it is from the title or cover picture, I'm less likely to check it out

Is the "Gen z stare" a real thing?

Reply in thread

Huh maybe it's cultural but I have totally encountered this with older people. Any time there is a ticket or info booth like at a train station, they are either staring or doing something else and I never know if I'm interrupting something. It's the best when they fiddle with something looking very busy, and then they look at me annoyed that I'm not saying what I want from them.

Celebrating 15 Years of Terraria!

You can stumble around and explore everything on your own, the game pushes you forward a bit when you get stronger so there's not a big chance to get stuck and bored.

But imo it's fun with wiki open too. Just to look up what weapons i can get for my playstyle and stuff like that. Many things will otherwise take hours to stumble on or you will never know something can be crafted. But you definitely don't need to read up on everything, I'd use it more to point to cool stuff.

An important point if you want to play with friends is to get into it together or at least have similar gameplay preferences. It's not as fun when you're learning to craft wooden armor and a friend drops you a lightsaber cos they already made better weapons.

For those who's country's national language is **NOT** English, how fluent is your English compared to your country's language?

I do understand English very well, but still use subtitles in case the audio is muffled etc. When speaking I have a bit more trouble remembering certain terms and mangle grammar which i realize a second later. There are some terms or phrases that I haven't encountered yet, had to have my american coworker explain some of those. In terms of being able to communicate it is totally fine but there is still friction that i feel coming from not only the language but our different backgrounds.

I also notice it is easy to learn a more niche word with the wrong pronunciation, or one that doesn't fit with the rest of what we learned. We basically end up with a mix of british and american english with random accents.
