RIP Dolly Parton

A lot of folks knew her for everything else, but I will always remember how she advocated for reading and all the books she gave to children. The book world has lost a wonderful person 😔

What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? August 25
Still working through Want submitted by Anonymous Curated by Gillian Anderson
I am not a big nonfiction reader but love this book so much! I read a few submissions a night and it’s just delightful.

Honestly, I was in early on buying books from Amazon. It was one of very few places I could find affordable college text books in the early 00s

lmao I’ve had a few encounters like that. Sometimes, when I’m near some of my tall flowers and they get in my face like “wtf are you doing here giant?!”

I feel like the only companies who should have stuff out early like that are craft stores because people need time to craft things.

What would you do if you were stranded on a deserted island?

lol this is me, I put the pro in procrastinator
I’d probably list everything, make a big “H E L P” sign with palm fronds, then chill until I needed to do stuff.
I would desperately miss my books though

Every weekend, I go out to do work in my garden and I can hear them. They chirp really sharp and often, they ‘whoosh’ really fast they sometimes sound like drones.
I call it the hummingbird wars and it’s constant lol

I read Station Eleven as a blind date book from the library. I really liked it a lot more than I expected to.
Edit: literally just found the book date description 30 minutes later. This is all I knew going into the book:
Genre: Post apocalyptic sci-fi
Description: A Hollywood Star, his would-be savior, and a nomadic group of actors

WomensStuff weekend positivity...What have you done that would impress your five-year-old self?
I watched the life cycle of a green lynx spider. It started as a tiny thing that was missing two legs, she grew from catching aphids to honeybees, a male came around, she ate him, she laid two egg sacs which I was able to record video of her spinning one. I watched as one of her egg sacs hatched, she disappeared, her babies grew and left the nest. Her second sac unfortunately never hatched.
5 years old me would have been so stoked with that whole process. 40ish year old me was totally stoked with that whole process.

Don't buy normal trousers belts, instead buy elastic belts which can last literally for life
I usually recommend seatbelt belts to friends because they are highly adjustable and very long lasting. I picked up the black GM one over 20 years ago, it stayed with me when my weight fluctuated 50lbs up and back down again. It was extremely useful in my old physically active job, I can catch the corner of a box on the buckle and hold heavier weight a lot easier.
I love it so much, I bought the TMNT belt as soon as I saw it and because I looooove ninja turtles 😬

Do you ever reminisce about an old phone you had in the past?

I had the original Motorola Droid as well. I loved the flipping the keyboard out, but you’re correct, it degraded to junk so fast.

lol, I feel the exact opposite and I grew up watching the old movies and tv show. Ghostbusters and TMNT were my childhood loves and still are my adult loves.
Answer the Call was funny, goofy, and kept the spirit of the original. The women may have been neurotic, but they were also strong, competent, and said fuck it to everyone who kept putting them down. I watch it as often as I watch GB1. It’s a great watch for the gym, it pumps me up and makes me laugh.
Afterlife and Frozen Throne were just nostalgia baited, coming of age, cash grabs that were nothing like the originals. After how ATC was dragged down by misogynists, I was very excited for Afterlife, I wanted to love it. I bought it immediately when it was available on iTunes and watched it immediately. The first thing I said when the credits rolled was “What the fuck was that trash?” because it was more like a teenage Goosebumps “horror” than an actual Ghostbusters movie. I hated it so much, I have zero desire to watch Frozen Throne.

I agree with most of what you said. For me however, Covid was when I learned how to mix cocktails. I figured out a very simple drink I like and now I have 2-3 mix drinks a week, almost never more than one drink per day though.
My secret ingredient is St. Germaine, thank you to The Expanse for introducing it to me!

How do I turn fresh tomatoes into pasta sauce?
Lots of great options have been offered to you already.
When I look for a recipe, I use noai.DuckDuckGo.com and add food network at the end of the search. It’s usually Alton Brown stuff that comes up.

What are some fads you wish would come back?
Low rise jeans
Not quite like the super low cut of the early 00s, but I’m tired of all the high waisted everything. I can’t wear anything high waist because they irritate my surgery scar.
This includes workout leggings! So sick of not being able to find leggings that fit and are comfortable. I have to fold down my bike shorts so they don’t cause pain, but that’s uncomfortable too. I miss when flared low cut yoga pants were popular. They were so comfortable! 😩

Who are some artists you listen to when you're feeling angry at the world?
Reply in thread
Hell yeah! Lots of riot grrrl when I’m angry. Also lots of Green Day, I love Reject and the entire Nimrod album for some angry punk in the car.
