What are some small minor things that annoy you in movies ?

Bad physics. Totally pulls me out of immersion.

No, Captain America cannot lean back and hold a helicopter that is lifting off. It doesn't matter how strong he is - he will be lifted once there is enough force generated from the propellers. Basically anything Batman does that involves gravity in the Nolan films is similar.

The magic I can get behind. The mutant stuff or dragons or even time travel in superhero movies doesn't bother me. It's the lack of sensible mechanics on an alleged Earth that I'm bothered by.

I'm getting old

The originals were fantasy. I's not a hot take, it's fact - Swords, wizards, castles, knights, the heros journey. Some of the other shows and media since departed from that. Mandelorean is a western, solo was a heist movie, and most the shows don't fit the fantasy tropes that well. None of Star wars, to my knowledge, fits sci fi at all.

Is it weird that I (M27) am pretty good online friends with an M41?

Why wouldn't this be fine? You met at 23. It's not like you were groomed from childhood. Strangers on the Internet cannot validate your relationship with this man. Only you know the details that can inform the decision you have made to befriend him.

Please consider how much credence you give to the opinions of others, especially considering that you feel as though your friendship shouldn't exist at times for absolute nonsense reasons.

Wait a minute. Did I just convince you it's all fine? Don't listen to me. I know nothing. Stop listening to strangers about things they don't understand and think for yourself. You got this.

If you are constantly having your comments removed and other comments that you think are comparably bad are not being removed, leave that instance. If you are seeing it everywhere, then leave Lemmy.

You know what they say about someone who smells shit everywhere they go. If you have to ban evade on reddit and Lemmy, you just might be the problem. I opened your profile. The first and last thing I read was a suggestion that someone you were speaking to should be killed. Introspect.

Are there any cases of authors/writers that have intentionally stolen a character name from another work?

Marvel's Deadpool (Wade Wilson) was initially a parody of DC's Deathstroke (Slade Wilson).

JoJos Bizarre Adventure has a sizable chunk of characters whose names are 80s bands or musicians.

Quite a few stories have biblical names or classical god names for their characters when not depicting the original, but that's even more of a stretch than my other examples.

Mitochondria

My favorite part of the "mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" memes (especially when cited as useless info being taught in school) is that it's grammatically incorrect. Mitochondria ARE because the word is plural, and any self respecting biology teacher knows that. The fact that this is cited as something drilled into students minds when people can't even recite it back properly is hilarious.
