It’s twice as fun when you have both

Only diagnosed with ADHD (and would likely only barely be on the spectrum for autism) but that's why I ended up only being able to work in emergency services. Mostly medical (paramedic & 911 operator/ambulance dispatcher) but I've also spent a few years in HAZMAT response and disaster relief.

Patch submitted to the Linux kernel by a 4 year old.

Reply in thread

I would normally be inclined to agree but this isn't one of those "omg I just had the most intelligent conversation with my 4-yo today".

It's clearly someone sharing their hobby/job with their niece, and what better way to do that than by including them in a practical aspect. It also literally says they "helped her as she's 4 years old".

You commenting is only bringing more attention to the post by increasing the comment count so maybe reevaluate your approach in the future if you're so against wholesome content.

Steam Frame updates: People in the reservation queue should be able to see if they're getting their frame this year or next.

Reply in thread

My understanding is that the reservation queue is a mix of "we have a specific physical unit assigned to your name" and "we have a manufacturing order placed, of which one of the units is assigned to you". Whereas waitlist is more "we haven't even placed the order yet to manufacture your unit, so we can't guarantee it will even get made".

So the distinction is more about the likelihood of ever getting one.

Did Horner, Max or Helmut ever question Hamiltons achievments?

Not quite the same as the current comments by Toto/Hamilton since the roles were a bit different (i.e.: Verstappen hadn't won a championship yet). And the Toto/Hamilton ones have been more direct. But yes, he's made similar comments. Their rivalry is not new and tbh I'm quite shocked anyone is surprised by any of this situation.

Just in recent years, he's made the following comments:

I remember some harsher ones but the current headlines keep coming up when I try to search for them, I'll have to give it another go when I'm back at my computer later (if I remember).

Sync for Lemmy Beta 91 release notes

Thanks for all your work LJ, it's clear the value we get from having you be able to dedicate so much time to working on Sync. Love seeing so much improvement to an already great app.

I'm especially happy for the PipedLinkBot feature and profile overview.

Edit: now that the update has shown up on my end and I've tried the new features, I'd like to add that I slightly misunderstood what the PipedLinkBot would do, any chance we could have an option for those comments to be collapsed by default instead of hidden?

In my opinion, the biggest issue with pushing communities to Discord is that it traps the information within that platform and their search leaves a lot to be desired.

Discord is a good platform to build a community around a topic, however, more often than not, a lot of solutions to common problems become lost or hard to find for new players/users.

What happened to Boost for Lemmy?

Reply in thread

I mean, yeah, obviously the dev would rather people pay the subscription when some of the Ultra features require server work and/or continued costs (translation, OCR, etc.).

Developing Sync is his full time job, which is why it initially shipped without a lifetime tier. People voiced their opinion and the dev listened by adding the lifetime option and the ad free option. If you don't like the pricing, use a different app. Nobody is forcing you to use Sync. LJ doesn't owe you the app for free (or any price outside of what he feels is fair).

YSK that you can map AEDs (defibrillators) in OpenStreetMap and that this data *is* used by applications

Reply in thread

As someone who works in emergency services, I can assure you that it is worthwhile. I've commented on other threads how many of our 911 agencies allow and/or even encourage dispatchers to use OSM as a tool to facilitate geolocating a caller, providing directions to responders in the field, and improving situational awareness. And that all comes as a result of the high quality and rich data that's being contributed to OSM.
