UNARMED WOMAN: “Shame on you.” ICE GOON: “Have you not learned from the past few days?” UNARMED WOMAN: “Learned what? What’s our lesson?” ICE GOON: *VIOLENTLY SNATCHES HER PHONE* (H/T @Mollyploofkins)

How else do you interpret what he says other than that he's threatening to kill her, since that's what's been happening the last couple of days, one woman is dead and two people are injured. We all know about qualified immunity, but are police and ice agents actually allowed to threaten to murder people? Are there no exceptions to qualified immunity when it comes to threatening to kill people?

Sadly true

Absolutely true.

It gets even more disturbing, though, when you realize how far $5000 would get you in 1946 and how little it gets you now.

Context: when my dad was a teenager, he bought a brand new car for well below $1000. And my grandparents' first suburban house cost about $7000, and that was in New York, near the city.

What would $5000 get you today?

A junker used car OR two months rent.

Fascist paramilitary invaders start unconstitutionally raiding houses door-to-door in the USA. We no longer have rights in America. Welcome to the home of the oppressed. (Minneapolis, MN - 1/11/26)

And the warrant needs to be specific, not general. The warrant is required to be for a specific place and a specific person or specific thing.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt booed by graduates at mention of AI

Reply in thread

Is it so true about how intense the booing is. And what's further messed up is that when I went to find the video on YouTube a lot of the videos have stripped away the boos and put in cheering, but the booing is definitely what's predominant in the real.

For proof the booing is intense, just look at how he's responding. Even with his botox face, he's still distressed and his face turns red, and listen to how defensive he is as a response to the intense and loud booing. He also at one point, turns his back on the audience because of the booing, and some of his comments start to sound a little bit threatening in my opinion. See what you think. Here's the video with the actual booing. https://youtube.com/shorts/5MYggR_PPRg

Cry cry cry

Not only were there public pay phones everywhere, but if you dialed zero, a person we called The Operator would immediately answer and you could ask them to look up a phone number for you or ask them to dial a number for you. This operator would pick up when you dialed zero from your home landline too.

Wait until you find out about all the free water fountains literally everywhere so if you were thirsty you could just stop and get an ice cold drink of water and go about your day.

‘Unforgivable’: Trump’s ‘piggy’ insult is stoking more outrage than usual

I grew up in the 70s and 80s when it was acceptable for parents to physically beat their children, and when when I saw this clip of Trump it shocked me because the look on his face, the finger pointing, and the sound of his voice was exactly how my father looked and sounded right before he would take off his belt to beat us with it. I can't be the only one who has these memories.

Also using the word "piggy" is revealing of how he sees people. Pigs are associated with slaughter and murder in nearly all of our stories. We kill and eat pigs. The upper classes see the rest of us as pigs to harvest and slaughter and consume. In their eyes how dare a lowly pig meant for their dinner plates question them and talk back to them. What Trump did and said revealed all this horror.

Reddit global rank is going down

I clung to Reddit for too long even though it sucked because it was awesome years ago and it was a habit.

One I joined here I started laughing again. Lemmy is so fun and funny. Reddit is just full of bots that don't know what humor is and petty people who forgot how to laugh.

Vulnerability tactics

It sucks to be a widow or widower looking for support groups to help you cope with the death of your spouse, and the only available groups are at churches who then turn the group into a mini church sermon. These churches should not have tax free status when they won't even offer the most basic help for communities without trying to convert vulnerable people to their cult.

As Microsoft Stuffs Windows With AI, New Update Prevents Users From Turning Off Their PCs

"The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely" (1984).

"The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment."
