South Korea court orders Samsung union strike to not impact chip volume
I don't think these people understand what a strike is. Those in power forget that their power is provisional to what the people are willing to put up with.

Couple left with $200k bill after baby born in US
Ah yes, the United States -- Don't get sick or you will have to fight tooth and nail to get your insurance company to pay for necessary medical care. This is a story heard over and over again stateside. If the U.S. was truly the best place in the world to live, this would simply not happen. As a person who has worked in healthcare in the U.S. for over 15 years, I feel this in my bones. I am glad you could get legal help and have the right outcome based on what you paid for. I would love nothing more than to see everyone who comes to the U.S. receive medical care appropriately -- Nobody asks to get sick :(

The Wall Street Journal Gets Community Noted For Saying Gen Zers And Millennials Are 'Splurging On Rotisserie Chickens'
Hahaha! I will tell you, my own mother (70s) buys rotisserie chicken because it is cheaper per pound of meat than a raw chicken and is just as good or better than if she bought the same size chicken and roast it herself in her own oven. Something to know about my mom is she is frugal. She coupons, and will always seek out the best deal. Whoever wrote that WSJ article truly has no idea what it is to budget is what I see. Additionally, some of the neighborhoods that were listed, are some of the richest parts of NY, so of course people who have money will also go out and buy easy meals rather than spend time cooking.

Microsoft kills official way to activate windows without internet
This garbage makes me so glad I switched to Linux Mint. Gaming has been just fine. Sure there have been a few hurdles, but they were well-worth spending time on as Microsoft continues this foolishness.

Ubisoft's annual report dictates that the consumers are the problem
Sounds like someone is upset that they cannot appease their shareholders by selling uninteresting video games riddled with microtransactions and cash grabs. I think that its time their leadership revisit the Agile Manifesto.

Trump casts a mail ballot again in Florida even as he calls the method 'cheating'
Yet more rules for thee, but not for me and my friends. What a loser, he couldn't get on his government-funded air force 1 plane to go cast his ballot in-person to make sure that his vote counts like he wants everyone else to do.

She fucking killed an entire family while speeding in her Mercedes SUV and they’re not going to even take her license away
Running into a stationary object that is NOT on the roadway should be an immediate re-test of driving skills. People in the U.S. and elsewhere constantly "forget" that they are driving a 3,000-pound or heavier killing machine. The lives lost is just abhorrent. This woman is getting off easy because of her age is what I see. After her period of probation when she will not be allowed to drive, she should be required to take driving lessons and re-test if she wants her drivers license reinstated. Sounds to me like she can afford it. I hope the surviving family members sue her into oblivion. Killing 4 people not in the roadway with a motor vehicle shows me a lack of respect for the dangers of driving.

America Trembles as Transportation Secretary Announces Plans for Air Traffic Controllers to Lean on AI Tools
Wow. Just wow. This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. So, how will the AI cope with a pilot not following instructions and/or confused by the instructions? Or better yet, how about weather events? It looks like self-driving cars, but with airplanes. If done even slightly incorrectly, it will be disastrous, but if it is not a real-time tool and has a human that actually checks its recommendations and acts accordingly, then it might be okay. Either way, I will be avoiding flying once this rolls out. WOW.

No. I pay taxes while using none of those programs and those programs are there to give people a hand up who are struggling. You deserve a roof over your head, a warm & safe place to sleep, clean water to drink and bathe, and decent food to eat. You are human and trying to meet your basic needs. People who have more can support those who have less. Simple.

Today I hosted a barbeque... to noone
Saying your going and then just no showing and no texting is just rude. I would be so angry I would never invite any of those people to do anything again. If they had at least texted that they were unable to come - even without a reason, I would forgive them because I personally sometimes get excited about events and then just really am in a bad headspace on the day of the event. At least I have the decency to text that I'm not coming and apologize. It takes a lot of work to plan a group event whether it is BBQ, Game Night, etc. Poor form to no show and no text. These people are not your friends.

Should parents who refuse childhood vaccines be liable if their choice harms someone else’s kid?
Reply in thread
There are a few considerations to make regarding the thought process of "if the other kid is vaccinated, then they should stay healthy," even when exposed to illnesses that they are vaccinated for.
(1) Vaccines are not 100% effective. In the case of the Measles vaccine it is estimated to be 93-97% effective -- this is a very effective vaccine. So, if someone is vaccinated, then yes, they likely will stay healthy even if they are exposed to a case of the Measles.
(2) Not everyone can be vaccinated for medical reasons whether it is due to allergies to something in the vaccine or another medical issue. So, these people are forced to rely on what is called herd immunity (everyone who can be vaccinated around them is vaccinated, so the virus or bacteria will not be around to infect the unvaccinated person). Unfortunately, for herd immunity to work specifically for the Measles scientists believe that 95% of the population needs to be immune to stop its spread. This is because the Measles is extremely spreads extremely easily -- about 90% of people who are not immune to Measles will become ill when they are exposed to the Measles.
(3) The last point that I will make is that if a pathogen (virus or bacteria) is allowed to circulate in the population due to low vaccine uptake, then there is a stronger likelihood that the pathogen will mutate (change) to get around the protection of the vaccine. Then nobody is protected and scientists get the fun of trying to create a new vaccine for the mutated version.
Take what I say here with a grain of salt since I am not an immunologist, physician, or scientist. I just like to know the pros and cons of vaccines as well as how best to protect myself, my family, and my friends from preventable illnesses. I learned a lot of this information by talking to my doctor, reading from medical journals (Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Immunology, etc.), and also checking major medical center internet sites for information such as Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, MassGeneral, etc. There is a lot of excellent information to be had from our scientific community to help make an informed choice - much of what I located was open and free to the public to read.

Anyone in tech confirm?
I can confirm. I learned real quick in college working a part-time help desk job for the University that I attended that I under no circumstances want to work in IT at any level or program because they are both thankless and stressful career paths -- when tech works, then why do we need you and when it breaks, why do we have you is all the "leaders" ask in many companies because they do not have a basic understanding how any of the IT systems function, hardware lifecycles, etc.

Wanna buy a(nother) humidifier?
Almost as good as when I went to Home Depot and the next day I got an email asking me to rate my experience during my recent visit. That creeped me out so much I removed the app from my phone and forced logout on all devices. I have not been back since. And no, I did not pay using a Home Depot card and I am not part of any rewards program with them. Just eeew. If you advertise to me, I will ignore your product and buy something else. If there is not an alternative, then I will either plug my nose and buy it assuming that it is a need, otherwise I go without.

So, your perspective is that pregnant people who have life-threatening medical conditions arising from their pregnancy through no fault of their own should have to pay out-of-pocket? Additionally, in it sounds like you feel that premature births due to life-threatening medical issues that the mother is suffering from and subsequent aftercare for the mother and premature infant should also be paid for out of pocket?

Microsoft CEO warns that we must 'do something useful' with AI or they'll lose 'social permission' to burn electricity on it
My sole use for AI has been troubleshooting computer issues. I will say that AI often does a better job than first line tech support when prompted correctly. That being said, I am a tech nerd who knows more than the average computer user that is not in the IT industry. There will always be a reason for human tech support tiers for people who cannot prompt AI correctly, but still need their stuff to work. I personally don't want AI invading my life any further.

American fast food CEOs, your next task is to eat your own company's food on camera and actually look like you enjoy it.
The last time that I ate fast food was a few years ago and it was McDonald's oatmeal -- it seemed they could not find a way to mess that up. Otherwise, fast food is just over-priced low-quality preservative-filled garbage food that will leave you hungry in a couple of hours. My partner and I usually stop at a grocery store, Kwick Trip, or a non-drive through restaurant if we need to get food while traveling. The price is about the same (sometimes less) and the food quality is much better if you choose your stop carefully. Fully agree that the C-suite of these companies need to eat their food regularly. The fact is that fast food is engineered to make you want more for the lowest cost to the company possible.
