“Reddit cannot survive without its moderators. It cannot.” - The Verge
Man i really hope Reddit dies and people move onto decentralized networks, in time I'm sure we can figure out how to index a decentralized network for search engines completely replacing Reddit.

PSA: Lemmy.ml is not Lemmy
I feel like for most people who aren't that into technology the concept of a decentralized network can seem a little overwhelming given most of them are used to social media that is controlled by one company.

Lemmy is so good right now because there are no kids here
Would you not consider people in their mid twenties kids?

Musk is undeniably just trying to run twitter into the ground at this point.

I personally use it for manga and following japanese artists who seem to post art and have discussions there

AITA for telling my kids about my wife's cheating?
NTA, the kids deserved to know why you guys had a falling out. She deserves everything she's getting right now.

‘You’re Telling Me in 2023, You Still Have a ’Droid?’ Why Teens Hate Android Phones

Apple has much better support for their phones, you can get iOS 17 on Xr which was released in 2018. On the other hand pixel 3 which was also released in 2018 lost official support with android 12 but of course in android you could just flash a custom rom and call it a day. So I don't think it's fair to say you need to upgrade every "couple" of years given the average user probably upgrades every 3-4 years regardless if they use iOS or Android.

(Meta) What shall we do here on /c/3ds?
Monthly game highlights would be nice, we could also do genre discussion every 2 weeks where we can talk about the games we like of that genre and recommend them

This years Top 5 best selling games - is 2023 a good gaming year?
Zelda tears of the kingdom is probably my favorite open world game uptil now, there's just so much to do and the building mechanics make the game a lot more fun. I've spent more time building and exploring rather than doing the main story, also collecting outfits and farming is fun as i figure out new ways to kill hoards of enemies. Can't wait to see how other open world games get inspired by the new zelda.

It's more about the hostile approach Reddit took rather than shutting down 3rd party apps, along with all the lies spez spouted about everything. It's a platform I can't trust anymore nor a platform I want to use.

Man I love how new apps are coming out everyday. It feels like I'm witnessing history in the making, in the next 5 years we can probably talk about the time when Lemmy was getting a new app everyday.

Aspartame: Sweetener used in Diet Coke possibly causes cancer, WHO set to declare
I'm so glad I was finally able to give up soda, not because of health reasons but I just started disliking carbonated beverages. With findings such as the amount of sugar they contain as well as the aspartame study I'm probably never looking back.

So how long until the Fediverse is monetized?
Reply in thread
The cost will be spread out on an instance by instance basis due to which the cost per user will be low and if not they can also host their own instance which doesn't cost a lot. If it's something around $5 a month I wouldn't mind paying to support a service I plan on using everyday.

What's wrong with using a browser to view Lemmy? Seems like a lot of posts are about best apps for Lemmy. Am I missing out on something by not using an app?
Reply in thread
The only thing it's missing is haptic feedback, would've been perfect if it got that
