Resistance is futile

Exactly.

My brain just hears "buy product! We like our product to spend money on it to try to influence you! Now look at these pictures or hear these sounds of said product"

Like man in a suit walking up to me on the street and asking if I'd buy a cheeseburger from him because he likes it a lot.

Enjoy your product sir, ill be leaving now.

One of my coworkers messed up by not checking ai output before following its direction.

When they were reprimanded, i was used as an example of what they should be doing to better use ai safely due to my low amount of fuckups.

I dont use ai and clearly they dont realize that.

I only found out because this coworker, who is a genuinely good and curious diligent worker, asked me for tips. After telling them i just dont mess with ai they let me know what happened.

So now im wondering what the funniest way to cash in on managment assuming i use ai is.

Does anyone feel like they have to hide their disdain for AI?

Ill do you one extra even. One of our customers, a lawfirm, has asked we remove AI from their environment over privacy concerns. We, as their IT, are still trying to push and sell licenses to our other customers and even use it ourselves.

All against the wishes of the actual workers themselves in my company. The execs and sales team is pushing it so hard and ignoring that a literal law firm is super against it.

Surely this will turn out well. I let that customer know that we're still pushing AI, and management is very pro AI still. It might be a good idea to look for a different IT provider if that goes against your values.

This has big "ill pay $20 if it has free shipping, but won't pay $15 + $5 shipping" energy.

Id rather buy food from a restaurant that doesn't need tipping and is more expensive because they pay their workers fair wage instead of a place where the workers feel like they have to do the food service equivalent of pan handling on the side of the street.

They get paid the same. One is less dehumanizing.

Leaving your wage up to a fickle customer is hell. Getting paid less because the cooks accidentally overcooked the customers steak so they felt like they werent "treated well" or some bs is ridiculous.

(The bottom half of this rant isnt aimed at you, but at tipping in general)

In 2615, will it seem just as shocking that so few of us could write code?

"Me want burger" directed at the microwave while it spins your frozen mid-tier burger.

It spits out a weirdly hot but cold "burger" after a minute. The bread is mush and the patty is frozen in the center, but it's a burger none the less.

"Wow and just think, in a decade everyone could be a 5star chef like me"

I like my microwave as much as the next person, and it has its usecase like any tool, but lets not start building microwaves into cars and fridges and washing machines.

I believe the common strawman is "if min wage goes up, prices go up" which..... You know just admits the system is there to abuse. "If you make more money then we'll take more money from you".

My favorite part is how it'll reinstall itself every so often when the OS updates. I used to be able to brick that in registry but its changed again to where that trick doesnt work anymore.

Notepad

For folks who cannot do this due to it being a work-controlled machine or otherwise, you can use notepad++. (Obviously id rather this be a tipping point to ditch all the junk at once, but sometimes that isnt feasible)

That said, i find i still need a throwaway notepad for fast trashy notes. In that case ive just uninstalled the new notepad and re-downloaded the legacy notepad then re-aimed "notepad.exe" to the legacy one.

There are a few guides out there, just search your standard "how to get legacy notepad"
