Why has it became usual business for shows people like getting canceled after one season? They don't even have time to flesh out a decent story? Why not let them have at least 3?

The problem is that the people in charge of the streaming services are very bad at making TV, because their business model is not the same as TVs business model. TVs business model is: sell ads. Run 24 episodes, every episode, build numbers, keep it going. There’s not much brand loyalty, there’s show loyalty.

Streamers care about one thing: getting you to subscribe. The Witcher is a great example. They got a lot of people to subscribe based on season one. Afterwards, all they might be able to use it to get other people to join, and they do, the real money isn’t getting other people to join who’ve never heard of the show, either by advertising for the Witcher, or by moving onto some other property that has a rabid fan base, adapting it, and getting them to join (see also one piece, avatar, etc.). And when they’re waiting for the next season, they find other shows, and are now subscribers for life, and who cares if the next season is 3 years away… or never comes.

“ChatGPT said this” Is Lazy

I’m getting that more and more. “I asked ChatGPT and it said”. Dude, we work for the same company and I could have typed that in, and maybe I did. I wanted your experience with it, that’s why I asked you.

Make sure they know they just lost input right ms the next time. No, I don’t ask Harry, he just quoted GPT last time, and I’d already asked it this time so there was no reason to involve him. Nothing worse for a lead than people not wanting them to lead because they’ve abdicated the job to spicy autocorrect.

CAH Gives You Your Fucking Money Back

It is WELL worth it, even for people not normally a fan of it.

There are cool backstories like “we ran out of ideas, but this made us pee ourselves laughing so we went that direction since it showed it would work” and for the pope card a description of who the pope is, ending with (paraphrased)“the current pope is some guy named Bob from Chicago”

‘Earthquake of biblical proportions’ as Democrat flips deep-red Texas State Senate seat

Reply in thread

This was a special election to fill a spot. The prior person (Kelly Hancock) quit to become state comptroller. These two will be running in the fall, though I wonder if the groups (including some with ties to white nationalism) that spent $2.5m on her will do so again in the fall. He raised $380k, mostly small donors.

Fun fact - Texas senate doesn’t meet this year, so he might not have a ton to do before the next election, but he’ll run as an incumbent, will be getting ready for next year’s session, and it’s also a nice pants-shitting moment for the Tarrant county Republican Party which is already in the midst of a party purity jihad.

(Seriously, they’re suing and being sued by other republicans about being removed from republican primaries, as well as suing to have democrats removed from Democrat primaries)
