Google execs admit users are ‘not quite happy’ with search experience after Reddit blackouts
Whats bothering me the most about it is that Reddit is still a valuable source of information for so many things, can't get around a boss fight in a certain older videogame? Yep, there are about 10 threads about it on reddit from years ago.
The amount information on there is big enough that often times many of the top useful search results are in reddit, I hope Lemmy can fill the gap, at least partially but I'm aware that it could years and that's only if the fediverse picks up well enough.

At least they didn't have to suffer for any stretch of time, I hope.

Boost for Lemmy is happening!

Ikr? I was under the impression that Mayayo wasn't interested but he probably saw the potential even more so when other former reddit 3rd party apps are switching, potentially bringing a lot of users.

Lemmy's total users continues to soar from 240k yesterday to 360k today! Basically quadrupling in the past 4 days

Definitely, I remember mayayo (Boost's dev) commenting that the update he pushed out recently was the last dance or something.

Andrew Tate charged with rape and human trafficking
It frustrates me how many people, even ones close to mine are obsessed with this turd. It's gotten worse since he apparently converted to Islam, now he's the pious and innocent man and his critics are the hypocrites or whatever.
He was alienated so he capitalized on young, lonely muslim men and many fell for it, sickening.

I wouldn't mind if they started a subscription model that makes them enough to keep the thing running and be completely independent from Google.

Why many texting apps still don't let you choose specific parts to copy from a message?
Reply in thread
Couldn't you copy them into a reply, then delete the bits you don't want to keep? I'm possibly misunderstanding though.
That's one way of doing it.
Pro-tip on Android at least - if you open your Recents, you can manually select text that was on your screen even if it wasn't selectable at full screen.
Is that an option on OneUi as well? I haven't been able to figure it out.

I can imagine they attempted to save face after all the 3rd party app mess, of course it's an ill-advised decision and backfired on them as it should.

Twitter/X new ID Verification - First Look
I've made a mistake by trying to restore a old Facebook account that I wanted to "delete", I even attempted it on two occasions, of course they demand an ID picture but their website is horrible with the phone camera so the pics always came out blurry so they always refused them.
Never again.

Looks like it's happening!
Looking forward to trying it! I'm going in with an open mind and definitely not expecting the experience to be as flawless as the original since even Lemmy itself is still in development.

I don't imagine another fascist being on the throne helps, is there a positive outcome from this? Maybe it will greatly hinder their war effort?

So they willingly went so far down into a no go depth that guarantees death just to see the Titanic? I don't get it.

I've used the app for years, I'm pretty happy it's getting it's lemmy version, it's a surprise but a welcome one.
