Great news. I'm probably more likely to use Sync, but seeing not one but two well regarded Android Reddit apps migrate to Lemmy is just bloody awesome.

I'm not missing Relay's trackers in the paid app.

10

Same, love Relay. I ditched the official long ago because of their tracking pixels. My pihole was having a heart attack.

10

All of these are missing good comments functions to me, mainly jumping to top level comments. Also, the ability to swipe away content or get to communities/magazines.

1

Thunder opens articles in Samsung Internet Browser of all things. I can't figure out how to change it to Firefox or Chrome. Otherwise I like it OK, although I wish I could turn off the animations

1

Relay was the best. There were so many great simple features that a surprising number of Lemmy apps are missing

1

If one thing the Fediverse have thought me so far is that you can use them all at the same time ;)

10
feddit.nl

Yes, it's going to be called Sync for Lemmy and preregistration opened two days ago. It most likely will still be some weeks before it becomes available. Ljdawson stated the target is 6 weeks, so that would be somewhere in the middle of August.

3

Yes, Sync for Lemmy has been confirmed to be in development. It has its own community and a channel on the Sync discord.

lemmy.world

Same. I used Boost for a while until I found Sync. I imagine the same will happen here.

4

I went from relay to sync to boost, lol. They were all great but the customizable views were more to my taste with boost.

4

I'm on Jerboa which is functionally very similar to Reddit is Fun so I'm happy with that. Like you said, good to see boost for Lemmy anyway tho

3

Between Boost and Sync, Lemmy is emerging as a promising option because there's going to be multiple strong 3rd party apps to engage with.

86

As a boost user this is weird... So many people were asking in the subreddit and he never answered. I'm glad it's happening

66
lemmy.fmhy.ml

WAIT WHAT THE FUCK WHAT!?

Last time I checked dev wasn't too convinced of it!!!!!

65

Ikr? I was under the impression that Mayayo wasn't interested but he probably saw the potential even more so when other former reddit 3rd party apps are switching, potentially bringing a lot of users.

28

Thank you Ruben!

It seems like the future for Lemmy is pretty bright with all these amazing apps switching over.

It's a shame that Christian decided to not develop Apollo for Lemmy for the time being. I bet that would also convince a fair share of users to abandon ship.

44

Can't wait. Boost is my most used app on Android and this will be great.

43

This is so exciting! Boost was my app of choice for the old place. I'm glad to see this here.

37

Reddit user for over 10 years, here for good. I was a long time Sync user and at some point I switched to Boost and I'm not sure why because I also purchased Sync Pro at some point. My two favorite Android apps being developed to work with Lemmy made me create a new account here and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

22

lol the downvoted post in one of the screenshots, the dev singled out @zac for absolutely no reason and I love it

20

I think I currently have 3 Lemmy apps on my phone, currently enjoying Liftoff... But will be VERY likely to go back to Boost if to works On Lemmy :)

20

I fucking knew it, in one of the last updates in the menu it went from "find subreddit" to "find community"

19

I paid for Boost premium for Reddit a long time ago and will do it again just to support it here.

18

I really like Lemmy so far even though it isn’t perfect yet. Adding a 3rd party app will make using this even easier.

17

Can't believe how many lemmy clients we're getting in such a short span. Exciting times ahead boys!

16

No waaaaay! The dev said it's not happening, I'm so glad to see he's actually doing it!

16

I just moved here from Reddit and I'm missing Boost already. Really looking forward to this!

16

Boost and Sync were my top two over the years. Happy to see Boost is making this switch too!

15

I am thrilled, Boost has been the best Reddit experience for me since I stopped loving Bsconreader. I don't even remember what my problem with it was, I think it was crashing or.... something, haha.

Boost ended up being a UI I preferred significantly, and I never looked back! This is gonna be FANTASTIC, where do I throw my money?!

15

Boost for Reddit wasn't, so I would expect the same here.

28

Pretty sure just about everything except Sync, Boost, and Maybe Summit are FOSS or plan to be

2

Most of them are! Jerboa, Liftoff, Connect and, the best of the bunch, wefwef.

1

Android users desperately need a better app for browsing Lemmy than Jerboa. Boost and Sync may just be that app.

15

Oh yeah, this is definitely hot! Shoot me up there into the endless fediverse! It's time to discover all those niche galaxies riding a nice vessel!

14

I was a RIF user and would like to see something similar over here. RIF feed is over. Rip.

14

Boost wasn't just my favorite Reddit app but my favorite App in general. I love the clean design so much. When the Lemmy App is released I will launch the Rocket to the Moon

14

awesome! boost was my favorite reddit app, im glad the developer sees a future in the fediverse!

13

Yes this is great! Between this and wefwef which is Apollo lookalike right now for iOS ppl this is great! Just need everyone over to Lemmy now but that'll prob take decades

12

I'm a sync guy but this news has me so excited. I will try Boost for Lemmy when it comes out and likely support it anyways.

11

I'm in! Unless rif goes to lif, in which case cheers all around :)

11

I'm registered for this.... incidentally it's the first time I've ever seen pre-reg for an app before lol

11

I used Boost to browse reddit. I'm definitely getting this when it's out.

11

Really happy that Boost and Sync are coming to Lemmy. WefWef.app has been a good replacement for Apollo on the iOS side

10

Never knew pre-registration for apps was a thing. Signed up for this one, looking forward to giving it a go

10

I saw that "subreddit" was changed to "communties" in the app recently so I was quite certain that a version for Lemmy is being at least experimented with.

10

This is so exciting! I used boost for reddit for 6 years and loved it! Can't wait to use it with lemmy

10

Still not 100% sold on Lemmy, but Boost with a good implementation could be the thing that changes my mind!

10

I love how a day ago he said he wasn't going to make an app and then changed his mind that quick. So damn excited!

9

I was using it for last few years, and it's one of the best 3rd part app for reddit.

9

I thought Rubén said he was going to move onto smaller apps instead of making a Lemmy app?

Regardless, I'm glad this is happening!

9

Great news! I loved boost for reddit.

I still can't believe spez did this. And continues to do this. What a prick

9

That UI....my god it's gorgeous. This is going to be a game changer for Lemmy.

8

I do get the “distributed” nature of networks and the underlying philosophy, but only if there’s a common interface where lemmy/mastodon or other similar network created accounts can be used seamlessly in addition to the current behavior.

8

This makes me so happy! I've been maining boost for almost six years now and was so bummed when the dev announced he wasn't going to be working on a Lemmy app. Looks like he changed his mind!

8

I was already on kbin thanks to the recent reddit fuckery.

Literally made an account here on lemmy.world after Boost's announcement just now.

Having my favorite Reddit app come over here with me is such good news.

8

yeah?? fuck year! I thought. I thought he wasnt gonna do a port, last I checked the boost subreddit it was said it wasnt happening so this is awesome.

i will gladly pay for boost premium again.

7

Boost was my most used app for several years. Really excited for this and to see the Fediverse grow.

7

This will actually make lemmy usable on mobile for me! I've been using boost for years, and I really can't wait.

7

Is this real??? He said he wasn't going to do this 🤔

He said he would not be doing Boost for Lemmy, and that he would focus on smaller apps:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BoostForReddit/comments/14ehiqs/comment/jow1le5

And he only registered the Lemmy community to prevent impersonation:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BoostForReddit/comments/14ehiqs/comment/jouvuok

I wonder if he put this on the store as a placeholder to also prevent impersonation?

EDIT: Damn, just saw the screenshots. Either this is a very elaborate placeholder, or it's really happening!

7

I like using boost for reddit, very fast and responsive than the reddit app. I will definitely sign up for this

7

Jerboa has been a really similar experience to Boost so far, compared to other Lemmy apps. However, Boost had some features I've been missing dearly, I'm so glad to hear this!

I'll definitely use it when it releases!

7

Oh HELL yea. I've been using Boost ever since I moved from Sync like 6 years ago. This is fantastic news.

7

I never used Boost for Reddit, but with this many people singing it's praises... ***BOOST FOR LEMMY, LET'S GOOO! *** Sorry, Connect. You're still cool tho

7

Awesome, used to use the reddit version and really liked it, switched from the official app and never looked back. Excited to try it out when it releases (also this is my first comment on lemmy, been lurking for a week or so but I think it's time I start interacting)

7

That's great, was using boost for a long time for reddit, hopefully it'll help me navigate lemmy a little easier.

6

That's amazing. Boost was my favorite app for reddit. Do you know when we can expect it to be ready for use?

6

I know there's a megathread for all lemmy clients, old and new. I just can't find it. Maybe you guys know? Or Is there a community? I just want an actual list of all lemmy apps.

6

Nice! Really hoping BaconReader follows suit soon as well 👍🏻

6

That's great. I've been using boost for years, can't wait to have them for lemmy!

5

Super keen, boost was the only app that gets any proper use on my phone

5

This is great! I was so sad when Rubén.said he wouldn't develop boost for lemmy. I think he did create a community as a kind of placeholder, so maybe i should go find it again

5

This will actually make lemmy usable on mobile for me! I've been using boost for years, and I really can't wait.

5

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boost is my #1 app for Reddit. Such a beautiful and loved all the features in it.

5

I have used Boost for so many time before I Switch to Joey but maybe the time use this app again.

5

This is great. Lemmy needs more 3P apps, as most people don't like using websites directly.

5

Boooooost! Thank you for coming to Lemmy~ It'll make ditching Reddit that much easier.

5

I'm stoked, I was sad because I was going to uninstall Boost for Reddit today. Glad to see Boost will still live!

4

I've used the app for years, I'm pretty happy it's getting it's lemmy version, it's a surprise but a welcome one.

4

Sync for Lemmy is coming too and that's how I heard of Lemmy! Excited to be on a fresh internet community, feels nostalgic in a way even though it's brand new

4

Boom! This made my day weekend. Wish I could give a post gold.

4

Well up for this. The polish of Boost on top of the federated structure of Lemmy could be perfect.

4

Woohoo! This one is my app of choice. So excited to see it coming to Lemmy.

4

Wow.. I just uninstalled Boost after midnight. Looks like it will be back soon :)

4

Nice! Really hoping BaconReader follows suit soon as well 👍🏻

4

Anyone use both sync and boost? I had used RIF so trying to get a feel for how each had worked before leaning towards one

4

This is awesome news. Preferred Boost over Sync/Relay/Rif etc.

4

I signed up here because of the promise of a decent app. Hope this place grows and beat reddit!

3

This is really fucking exciting.. I just donated money through their boost app by "launching the rocket"

3

Best friggin news all day.

I've tried just about every android app for reddit and have firmly been a boost user since I tried it years ago. I was metlntally prepping myself for sync but now I may not have to!

3

Boost was my favorite android client so happy to hear this! Now using a iPhone tho

3

I am so glad Ruben decided to port Boost to Lemmy. Hopefully it will be released soon.

3

WHAT. This literally just made me yell out loud haha. This isn't some sick joke right? Or a hallucination? When I askerhim before he said he wasn't going to be making boost for lemmy....

Edit: It's not a joke, I just registered on the play store. This is so awesome.

3

LET'S FUCKING GO.

On a different note, I tried opening boost for reddit and it works fine?

3

Gimme

Jokes aside, super excited for this. Paid for the Boost for Reddit app and will gladly pay again for Lemmy.

3

So happy about this! No longer all gloom-and-doom situation. Now it's up to us to make our communities as vibrant as possible

3

This was the news that got me to sign up, looking forward to the future of Boost!

3

Ludicrously happy - he had said he was going to be working on smaller apps. Boost is why I have used reddit so much these past years - as of right now it's still online, but I suspect withing a few hours it will no longer function.

2

I'm a total noob so using lemmy was a real challenge to get started, but I downloaded wefwef today and it's basically just like Reddit, very easy to use and feels very comfortable.

2

God I love to see this. What gifts, all these apps! I've used 4 so far and they all rock. I can't make up my mind.

2

Hell yeah, another great app joining the migration. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Keep up the great work.

2

This is amazing! I can't wait for this to get released + Sync!

2

My favorite Reddit client, I was bummed when I moved to IOS and found that I I can’t have boost. I don’t think he’ll create an iOS app, but if you’re on android, please give this app a try, it’s amazing.

2

I've been kind of expecting this move from a community person like Mr. Mayayo. I'm going to launch the rocket in a heart beat !

2

Yo boost was the shit when so was on android. I really hope Apollo does the same thing.

2

This great news.

I paid for both Boost and Sync as I kept filtering between the two, for me Sync had an edge but don't ask me why, because even I dont really know.

Just for me they were the best two android apps so to them both coming to Lemmy is great news.

2

Wait what, I thought he wasn't doing it, saying he was going to do smaller apps. I guess this is what he meant by "smaller apps"? xD

2

Bloody hell I thought Rubén wasn't going to do this. I am a hundred percent excited.

2

Same. I imagine there hasn't been anything official from Reddit as they are trying to cut off 3rd party apps on phases to avoid a massive drop in traffic.

Think of it as smoothing the transition to increase their odds that people will cave to "peer pressure" and just download the official app.

2

I loved Boost for reddit and can't wait for this. The customization for every little thing is awesome.

1

That was probably on third place right after Relay & Infinity for me.
Any word on kbin support?

1

I've been waiting for it to come out and it just got pushed to my phone today. This is my first comment on Lemmy! Woo! So far it's feeling pretty seamless.

1

This is super exciting, hoping he either adds Kbin support or also makes a Boost for Kbin. Boost for Reddit was my go to for Reddit on mobile

1

Sweet! Another one! I'm just over here collecting apps to try with lemmy! This is exciting!

1

Oh fuck yes. Boost for Reddit was my app of choice for ages. I'll happily use this when it comes out.

1

Really wish it was on iOS too. Reluctantly switched from Android and it's the one app I really miss.
