My want to retake my meds but my wife doesn't want me to. Any advice?

I'm trying to retake the medication that I took back in high school (Concerta) so I can study for and eventually take the Comptia A+ exam. The idea being that I've a decently-paying remote job that will benefit both my wife and I. My wife, however, refuses to let me get my meds. This isn't the first we've had this conversion and every time she says the same thing: "You just need to focus naturally", "It's all in your head", "Doctors are only in it for themselves" and so on. There's no getting through to her and I'm tired of trying to get to reason with me. I think I'm going to get my meds in secret and hide them. I know that this is a bad idea but she leaves me no choice. Any advice?

The Telepathy Tapes (hosted by Ky Dickens) makes the false claim that, among others claims, nonverbal autistic children have telepathic abilities and that is revealed through a method called "spelling to communicate." "Spelling to communicate" is a rebrand of the now discredited therapy method known as Facilitated Communication.

How to keep up with the latest peer-reviewed research in a particular field?

I'm going to use three fields as an example: computer science, biology and paleontology. How do keep with interesting developments in each of these fields? Which journals are the most reputable in their respective fields? How do I know that the journal is reputable? If the journal is reputable, how do I know that a particular paper isn't a fraudulent paper that managed to slip through the cracks?

For those that have taken finasteride, what has been your experience?

I know that some of you are going to comment about going to see a doctor before taking such a medication but don't worry. I will very much go see a doctor before I take it. Now for the main post...

I'm in my late 20s but I'm one of those that suffer from early hair loss. Think Patrick Stewart and Jason Statham. I've taken Minoxidil before with some results but not that total restoration that I'm looking for. After some thought and hesitation, I've decided to take finasteride. I want to know, if you've taken finasteride before, what was your experience? I've heard that it might give you "down there" troubles. From the little research that I've done, it only affects about 2-3% causes if on the standard 1mg dosage.

If you haven't noticed already, I'm a cishet man and (I might be wrong but) most of the replies are probably going to be from other cishet men. However, I also know that many trans women also take finasteride to combat alopecia so, if you're a trans woman, don't hesitate to leave a comment about your experience.

How do Scandinavian/Nordic cities compare to Dutch cities (Amsterdam in particular) in terms of walkability?

I'm starting to plan for the long-term with the idea to move out of the US, eventually. Having watched a lot of urbanist content, I get the impression that Amsterdam is the ideal city. However, I think other European cities get overshadowed. Specifically, Scandinavian/Nordic cities. How do Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki compare to Amsterdam and other Dutch cities? Can I get around with just walking and cycling? What's the public transit infrastructure in those cities like?

Additionally, I'm of Cuban descent, so will I face any racial discrimination? I'm pretty sure that Scandinavia as a whole isn't racist, but I don't doubt that I will have isolated encounters.

Whats the flaw of the "Nothing to Hide" argument?

To be clear, I don't subscribe to the idea of "Nothing to Hide." It's a bullshit argument. The reason why I'm asking this is because I want to be able to explain why it's bullshit. I don't like the fact that many people, including ones in my family, are willing giving up their right to privacy simply because they've become accustomed to convenience that modern technology has afforded them. I, myself, have been guilty of these but I'm actively taking steps to take back my privacy and potentially help others as well.

Bonus question: Many people will retort with things "Do you want criminals walking our streets?" or bring up an anecdote about how Flock, Ring or any other surveillance companies' cameras helped solve a crime or found a missing person. Flock themselves have a blog post series called #SolvedStories where they list so-called "success stories" about their cameras solving a case. Of course, I don't want criminals walking our streets and, sure, those stories might pull my heartstrings but what's the bigger picture?

What are "modern" Thinkpads like?

By "modern" I mean every model made after the T480 and T580 (which is what I have!). The reason why I'm asking is because I'm thinking about buying a laptop for my younger brother for his birthday in a couple of months. The idea is that he'll use it for school work and browsing. He'll be entering high school soon so I want to buy him a laptop that last him a good while. I feel the newer models suit this criteria a bit better since I don't expect to tinker around with it though I do intend to introduce him to Linux with it.

From what I've observed is that the newer Thinkpads are still well regarded from a general consumer perspective but disregarded by enthusiasts. What do you guys think of the newer models?

Bluetooth and Sound Problems

About two months ago, I made this post looking for recommendations for a potential mobo replacement for my PC. Well, I'm happy to report that everything is back to normal. But while I have my PC disassembled, there are two unrelated issues that I wanted to take care of.

The first is one that has been presented since I built this rig but didn't ruin the overall experience. My motherboard (MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi) comes with bluetooth but there's just one problem; it barely works. For example, it will recognize and connect my Xbox Elite controller but switch from connected to disconnected and back multiple times. It can't maintain a consistent connection. Every bluetooth device that I've tested does this. I've let it linger since it wasn't a top priority during daily use.

The second problem concerns the on-board sound. Some time last year, my speakers stopped outputting sound. I fiddle with the speaker port on back but only buzzes would be produced. The speakers themselves work since I connected to the headphone port and sound is being outputted.

Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

Ryzen 9 3900X compatible motherboard recommendations?

It seems my motherboard died after five years of service. I did some testing to verify this. All my other components seem to work. I will do one last test before making a purchase but, again, the motherboard is the most likely culprit. The motherboard in question is an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi. Would it be wise to buy this exact motherboard again? If not, which compatible motherboard should I buy?

E-readers: Kobo vs Boox?

I've been getting back into reading and while nothing will beat a physical book, having a device with multiple EPUBS seems like a good way to save space and money. After a bit of searching, I'm down to two options: Kobo (specifically the Libra Colour) and Boox (specifically the Go Color 7). I've discarded tablets because they're just a larger phone and thus blue light-induced eye strain. I've also discarded the Kindle because of Amazon's business practices. I known that Kindles can jailbroken (which I wouldn't mind doing) and I could buy one second-hand on eBay but I prefer to give my money towards a better competitor.

Which one do you think is better? Have you used their previous e-readers? How do they compare?

Thanks in advance!
