What other movies wouldn't work today?
You couldn't make half of Seinfeld because with cell phone all the funny situations don't occur.

Ben & Jerry’s co-founder arrested after disrupting Senate hearing with pro-Gaza protest
If you watch the video the cops assault the protestors which is so crazy. I get you can remove the people and am not surprised cops acted this way it's just so disgusting to see.

America is facing a nightmare scenario with a looming strike and wrecked infrastructure after Hurricane Helene
Reply in thread
Is it 50% over 10 years or something like that? Edit: I just looked it up it's over 6 years which is 7% annual raises. This barely catches up to the past 3 years of inflation l not to mention as you work at a place you should be getting better and more useful so should be making more. 50% is a bare minimum offer and sounds like turning it down makes sense.

Yeah this sounds like the most reasonable outcome but companies have been surprising me recently with how dumb they can be.

Hearing is be-leafing: Students invent quieter leaf blower
The sad thing is the students who actually did the work will probably see no financial gain from this. Students pay to take a class and then a company pays the university for access to the students and the students ideas and work is used by a company with no financial benefit to the students. Everyone makes out except the students.

Tennessee plastics factory staff killed in Hurricane Helene reportedly told not to evacuate
Reply in thread
The thing is you never expect it to get so bad that you might die it's more like you think you'll be stuck at work overnight or something like that and unfortunately it's not worth losing your livelihood over having to spend a night at work. Unfortunately by the time people realize how bad it is it's usually too late.

Webmd parent company video
Why aren't the clips with the executives back in the office instead of being shot on a green screen probably in their home office.

This may be a little too generous to 2013, but it's not that far off.
I don't think people remember the amount of crazy websites that were out there spouting absolute nonsense. Websites had very little credibility.

California governor Newsom vetoes bill to make free condoms available for high school students, citing cost
I mean I do agree with the fact that the bill doesn't provide funding for the condoms just that the schools need to provide it. That sounds pretty dumb to me.

Male birth control breakthrough safely switches off fit sperm for a while
I've heard of a male birth control every couple years and still nothing on the market. Usually it's because there are slight side effects and that's considered to much of a risk meanwhile female birth control can cause blood clots and whatnot. I'm too jaded to believe this will ever come to fruition.

Wendy's to close hundreds of US stores in bid to halt falling profit
Reply in thread
I used to love Wendy's and went to Wendy's a little while ago and just got a burger no fries nothing else and it was like 9 dollars. I was blown away and never want to go back. All these cheap chains jacked up their prices and saw temporary profits but then customers realize it's not a good deal and stop going. Late stage capitalism really sucks.

Do you want the murderer of the UnitHealthcare CEO prosecuted?
I hope he's caught and found not guilty so he doesn't have to live in hiding for the rest of his life. Just like that kid Kyle Rittenhouse that got away with murder and now has a podcast and people donated a bunch of money to him. If he can do it why can't this guy.

Also by improving struggling countries it means you have more and stronger markets to sell to. When you empower your neighboring countries everyone is safer and stronger.

Are you saying privatizing systems makes them better prepared for extreme circumstances? The energy infrastructure in Texas is an example where they aren't incentives to invest in rare occurrences and therefore people die when it snows in Texas.

Avatar is cursed for remakes like Fantastic Four
Reply in thread
Im only 4 episodes in so I can't give a full review but I think the problem is there were some choices that were made that ruined the heart of what was good about the show. Uncle iroh and saka are not funny at all. I just saw the 4th episode which has the caves of omashu and the singing hippies were hilarious but got mostly removed. It's like they think laughing would cheapen then shows seriousness or something. There is no love connection between aang and katara. And they added a bunch of storyline from season 2 for some reason.
