Phishing attempt

Oh man. This is brilliant for phishing training. Get through some armor. Don't let your biases get in the way. You can do a variation around this theme. One could be similar to above. Another is one that says you can opt-into this kind of thing by "Managing Preferences". You'll hit a large swath of people without them paying too much attention. I like this.

"Secret" just like those emails I get from HR asking my opinions about management that are completely anonymous, but don't forward this email or share the link with anyone else because it's just for me....

Instagram growth gurus.

Can't put the laptop down because he's next to a pool to free up at least one hand.

The best I can advise for him is to chew up the cigar and chase it down with the espresso martini. Then throw the laptop into the sea like a discus and get into the pool to wait for the authorities to charge him with littering.

Honest advertising at least

How much money would one presume 5 beers would that it would cover this many beers? Even if you're buying at a local convenience store or at your local alcohol store this would be around $50? Who walks up to a place, sees an order of what they assume is 5 beers for that price and thinks, "Yeah that's a fair price."

Long Island man wearing 9kg-metal necklace dies after being sucked into MRI machine

What kind of hospital let him get near the room with that kind of metal around his neck? I've had to be in several hospitals recently for different imaging issues and every time the MRI is a thing I have to remove everything metal to go past a certain door (escorting my daughter and son for medical reasons). I don't know who let him anywhere near the room with something that large.

Edit for Clarity: I've had to be the one removing all metal even though I'm not the one being scanned. For me to progress beyond a certain part of the hospital toward the MRI I needed to get rid of everything. My children were being scanned, not me. So, I'm not sure what hospital system allowed this man with a 9kg chain get this far deep into the imaging area.

Mobile watch parties

They did this during the pandemic and parked the buses in lower-income areas to help kids who had to do school from home and didn't have internet. There were a lot in my area and there were complaints because it wasn't enough for everyone.

You can't do nice things, everyone is going to complain no matter what.

Trump says he’ll sign bill to release Epstein files but claims ‘all’ the dead sex offender’s ‘friends were Democrats’

Just gonna leave this here for unrelated reasons:

In a 2004 interview, Trump told CNN's Wolf Blitzer: "In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat", explaining: "It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. Now, it shouldn't be that way. But if you go back, I mean it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats...But certainly we had some very good economies under Democrats, as well as Republicans. But we've had some pretty bad disaster under the Republicans."

Received this from our Microsoft reseller this morning

This is how Microsoft has always done this adoption stuff. I'm surprised this is only coming out now. Probably has been happening to the larger institutions for much longer. They get the "next generation" hooked on free product that is part of the education system and then it's just part of what they do naturally.

I was in college when .Net was just being rolled out and we all got free licenses to Visual Studio. Also had licenses for Adobe products and pretty much any other major player. Just had to ask the right IT person how to get a disc and license key. They only worked for 4-5 years before going dormant, but some of us kept in touch with internal staff and got it for several years after that as well.

If you're in college, don't fall for the free taste. There's always a catch.

People get mad when they feel like they weren't ready for training, but to your point, that's why we train. To make you more aware when the real thing comes. Check all of your links. Verify it's real before just clicking through.

The issue has come from some companies threatening jobs when people don't perform properly. I would love it if people saw this as just training and not a personal attack. You fell for the trick now how do you not get tricked next time? It might help if we did a quarterly report and put it on the intranet for people to see how many got clicked. Don't make it a Wall-of-Shame, but a report to see how good things have been going. Put out sample emails that were the trickiest and what were the tells. Make Security a thing that is a growth aspect, not a shaming tactic.

Never.... NEVER work and personal with the same account. It's a pain to have separate accounts, but this makes it so much more worth it. If they got mad at the personal account, that's losing photos and other connection pieces but the work account (DEV account) still can make money. If it's the DEV account, your personal still works and you don't lose all of the personal connections but hopefully you're working under an LLC or other entity that has the ability to have some legal push back when needed. Not always, but sometimes, businesses don't want to mess with other businesses but they'll punch "Steve" in the mouth.

We have had these around our farm properties for a while for the same reasons. You can make them out of mesh wire and some 2X4 pieces of wood. Don't look as fancy as this but with the right bait (horse/cow dung and some meat scraps) you can get the same amount of flies. Really helps the animals and humans when the horseflies start swarming.

Gmail/Google starts disabling features unless you agree to data processing

I mean, that's the point, right? The only way they can offer those "experiences" is to process your data. We need to get off the teat of convenience and learn to use the tools and want to put a little effort into things again. We've relied on them to just feed us the information in the way we want it for so long, we've forgotten how it got there originally. We can do it. It's okay to take 5 minutes and put that info into Calendar. Learn how to formulate the searches to get your information, and alternatives to make sure you've covered your bases. READ THE BOOK/BLOG/EMAIL YOUR DAMN SELF and write a summary in your own words.
