The folks in the Ukraine sublemmy are following this very closely, and say the fighting has started.

GTA Online Fans Furious As 180+ Cars Are Removed, Some Now Paywalled
This is a new low for R*. Many of the removed cars are the "street cars" which could be stolen for free by new players.
Trying to monetize 10yo base game assets... smh

What is the point of using screws with a Phillips head, flathead, allen, hex, etc. instead of just having one universal screw type?
Different types have different advantages and disadvantages.
Slot can be opened with stuff that isn't screwdrivers (keys, coins, etc). They can take more torque than Phillips and are cheap to make. They kind of suck to use though, the screwdriver/bit likes to slip off.
Phillips self-centers the bit, and is pretty tolerant of wrong-sized driver for the screw. It strips easily though.
Torx, square and Allen are more expensive to make and require the correct size driver, but they're higher torque and the driver doesn't slip out of the screw.

Popular subreddits plan to extend blackouts indefinitely | Engadget

Being a mod is a labor of love. If they don't love it any more, they'll leave. They're currently trying to save Reddit from making that happen.
The execs don't seem to understand this.

For people that still want to use reddit, why?
I'm not here because I don't want Reddit, I'm here because I do want Reddit, but it looks like the Reddit Corp is going to break it.
I don't think I'll leave Reddit until it goes to shit, but if mods leave, communities will fall apart and I won't have any reason to be there any more. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow.
Lemmy seems like the most likely to rise up and take Reddit's place, so here I am. My only major complaint is the lack of user base, so I'll stick around for a while and contribute my +1 in the hopes that enough others do the same thing to get the critical mass needed for niche hobby groups to form.

Might just be overloaded. Either way doesn't look good for them.

It's officially a party! TIFU HITS 6000 SUBS
Cheers!
I just got here yesterday, and it's amazing how much growth I've seen since then, not just TIFU but everywhere. There's clearly a demand for a new digital town square. Hope it continues to grow.

Is the police union really that powerful?
Yes.
I remember when Arnold was governor and was trying to balance the budget. He found out how much we were spending on prisons, and how many prisoners were there for nonviolent drug crimes. He publicly suggested letting specifically those people out. Within a couple of days, wall-to-wall radio ads started running... "Little Suzie was raped and murdered by a PAROLEE!!! Schwarzenegger wants to let PAROLEES JUST LIKE THAT loose in YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!!!". He dropped the idea.

A modest proposal: roundtable on defederation
Reply in thread
The Beehaw mods explicitly said that the defederation was due to lack of good mod tools combined with lack of time to moderate manually, and that they didn't really want to defederate but didn't know what else to do.

Cruise self-driving car stops in middle of S.F. mass shooting scene, company now facing backlash
Lol, Cruise claims their vehicle didn't obstruct emergency crews, but police had time to set up a police tape perimeter around the car in the half hour it took Cruise to move the thing.

You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

Anthony Bourdain once said "There's a guy in my head, and all he wants to do is lay in bed all day long, smoke pot, and watch old movies and cartoons.

I was excited for OW2 as well. I left because of locking heroes behind the battle pass.
Greed has killed Blizzard. They're like Zerg Kerrigan... they look familiar but they're corrupted to the core, and everything they do is tainted by it.
I've already done my mourning, but it felt awful at the time. Sorry you're dealing with it now.
