I read the Foundation series a long time ago. Yeah I love Asimov but it was pretty dry. The ideas and plot lines were really cool but he needed a coauthor to help flesh out the writing and dialogue.

Look obviously she is complicit/lying, and we all can see that. But what also bothers me is how our society approaches dealing with people like her.

As a person in a position of power/leadership she is expected to have good judgement. That’s the same sort of thing we expect of a pilot in an aircraft. If the weather forecast says the weather will get bad in a few hours, other pilots warn the pilot about the weather getting bad, and the controller radios the pilot before takeoff saying “hey the weather is getting bad, are you sure?” and then the pilot takes off and has a crash due to weather - we all say this person has bad judgment and should not be a pilot.

So even IF she were telling the truth (which she is not), she was warned repeatedly about this specific outcome and ignored it. Everyone who cares remotely about this issue should be saying “Best case she has poor judgment and shouldn’t be in charge of anything.”

What the therapist doesn’t understand is that the anger is not just about mom dying. It’s about how everyone around this person failed them in a moment of danger, and as a result of that her mom died a horrible death. And even later, her society was collectively unable to acknowledge its behavior and the consequences it had.

I did not lose my mom but I did work in a hospital as a physician throughout the pandemic. I remember the ICU being full from Covid patients to the point that the hospital had to open new sections up and nurses working overtime to accommodate all of the sick. Then I would leave the hospital after providing care to all of these sick and dying people… and go to the grocery store where everyone was refusing to even mask up and I would see ghoulish politicians who were talking about how it was a hoax. I could see this catastrophe happening in front of my own eyes and everyone around me just wanted to pretend it was fake.

I didn’t suffer the loss this woman did but those terrible experiences and the feeling that my community had completely failed its members forever changed how I see people and the society I live in. So yeah, I get why she is still mad.

A lot of his value is tied up in assets that aren’t liquid (real estate). Also he is probably not worth as much as he says.

But the main reason is that these “cheap crap” things you mention are probably vehicles for money laundering from foreign actors. The best example are the NFTs he was hawking for awhile. Costs next to nothing to make and foreign states can buy a ton of them to give him money without it being easy to detect. Even if it is detected it is still legal to buy silly NFTs, right? Certainly more so than a foreign government giving a candidate bags of cash for nothing.

For sure. But of course dude tried a coup on live tv and we are having trouble getting the justice system to hold him to account. So getting proof of the NFT scheme that I outlined as a hypothetical is probably going to be harder.

Don’t know who needs to hear this but I have seen variations of this story play out time and time again. Try and realize how much money it costs one of these companies over time when they pay out a disability claim and you will realize they are highly motivated to find a reason to get out of paying.

What I’m saying is that if you have a disability claim you should just assume that a private investigator is going to be checking up on you. Act accordingly.

I think you will find, Mr. West, that it is not so easy to unring the bell. If you are truthfully NOT a Nazi then I would say you have a long road of public actions fighting Nazis convincingly if you wish to be believed.

Just want to point out that going to Suriname is going the wrong direction if you are trying to reach the USA. Also even IF the boat had drugs and IF it was destined for the USA, it seems like this would be a job for a coast guard vessel to intercept and arrest the smugglers. Just executing random people in the ocean because they might be smugglers is murder.

This might be obvious to you dear reader but I feel like we need to say these things loudly and often.

Your rant reminds me of that because I think you’ve got this idea in your head that everyone in life is at the same point in their journey as you are now. Linux has been on the edge of my mind for awhile but I’m a really busy working person and learning a new operating system seems daunting when you don’t have the experience.

Then I bought a Steamdeck last year and a switch flipped in my head; I was like hey this gaming on Linux and it looks like it is actually doable. Then a few weeks back a misfortune resulted in Windows getting nuked on my gaming PC and I had some free time so installed Linux for the first time and started trying to figure stuff out.

My point is that there are people who are truthfully interested but overwhelmed with life or it’s just not as high a priority to them so it hasn’t happened yet but that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. This approach of “they would have done it by now if they were going to” just seems silly to me. People have lives and we are all at different places in our journey.

I remember very vividly when they redid the special effects in the original Star Wars trilogy and added this dumbass ring coming out of the Death Star explosion. It completely broke immersion for me because I was like “wtf is that supposed to be?”
