Leave Windows 11 Idle For 24 Hours, It Sends Over 3000 Telemetry Pings To More Than 100 Different Servers.

PSA, for people sticking to Windows:

You can get a reasonable level of privacy by installing Windows Enterprise via RUFUS, which also has options for removing restrictions during installation. Massgravel is used to activate your copy of Windows, the Github also having .ISOs for you to use with RUFUS.

ShutUp10 is a piece of software that goes a step further, allowing you to toggle off many bad things, uninstall Microsoft's AI, and gives a description of what you are tweaking does. The premium version also automatically applies your settings at all times, reverting Microsoft's constant tweaking of your settings.

I recently attempted my 2nd migration to Linux through ZorinOS, but that didn't work out. There are still issues with reliability and user friendliness. As a power casual, there were too many jagged edges to let me feel good about daily driving Linux. Hopefully, SteamOS will change that within three or four years. Linux will someday be our solution to the Microsoft problem, but that year hasn't yet arrived.

Assorted things, but the biggest was with AppImages. You are supposed to make them executable with a properties tab, as ZorinOS is intended to be a Windows-like experience. However, at some point, AppImages stopped launching, even after rebooting the system. There was no error messages, just nothing happening after trying to launch them. That is bad for troubleshooting, and is vexing. After three or four days trying to resolve such issues with Linux, I got fed up and went back to Windows 11 Enterprise.

In any case, I will attempt another Linux migration when the time seems right. I will let Valve cook, they will bring friendliness and reliability to the masses.

How to play games outside steam?

In ZorinOS, you use the properties tab to set whether something is an executable. ZorinOS tries to be a midway point between Linux and Windows, so a fair chunk of things can be done without relying on the terminal. The issue with AppImages comes from previously working as intended, then silently failing.

In any case, Linux needs more time in the oven before it is suitable for the everyday person. It simply lacks the reliability and intuitiveness that is needed for someone used to Windows. Hopefully, SteamOS is what brings Linux to where it needs to be.

I tried Mint three or four years ago, and had issues with getting my games to work. As for the AppImages, the issue was that I would double-click on them, and nothing would happen. No error message, just nothing. To say the least, that doesn't lend itself to troubleshooting.

SpaceX stock tumbles 23% from its high, as average investor sees gains wiped out

Honestly, if it was just SpaceX + Starlink as the IPO, I might be interested in picking some up. A healthy business is good business, especially when it is useful to society.

Grok is a poison pill, because it is a bad AI that isn't in a healthy place. Quite bluntly, Chinese offerings are superior to their American counterparts, because they aren't poisoned by bad economics and are very performant on local hardware. On top of that, the IPO is suspect because it circumvented the rules that were intended to protect investors from bad outcomes.

All in all, this thing stinks like hell, and Musk is a fish's head.

2 in 3 Americans say U.S. democracy is in danger of failing

Personally, I think balkanization or civil war are the most likely outcomes. The US has a lot of cruft from generations of oligarchy and the spared leadership from the Confederates. It would require a deep cleaning and reorganization to secure a better future for many states.

Anyhow, I believe that the American Dollar would probably die. If the US balkanizes, we might see a Californian Peso or Pacifican Bills to become a thing. Being anchored to a sinking currency would kill many states, so it would behoove them to separate on the fiscal basis alone.

Windows 11's New Media Player Uses 3.5x More RAM, Charges for Popular Video Codecs

I honestly would buy a $300 copy of Windows Enterprise, provided it didn't have adware and other invasive things. Unfortunately, the last time I bought a premium Windows was back when Windows 7 Ultimate roamed the world.

These days, I just pirate a copy of Enterprise via RUFUS, and use ShutUp10 to kill whatever nastiness that Microsoft is up to. That sucks. I want to just buy a perfect Windows and get on with my day.
