'Block Everything' protests sweep across France, scores arrested

You can raise taxes for rich people AND remove public founding for enterprises. LFI ( melanchon) proposes these two :

  1. The "zucman tax" aims to tax the 1800 richest french families at a rate of 2%, Wich would bring 40billion.
  2. for public founding, a senatorial report showed that 211 billion in tax cuts or direct founding were given ( without any requirements of employment or anything) to enterprises (some of which layer of ppl and gave out dividends while being under public founding). Those could be recalculated.

Non-Americans, what's it like when you're sick and need to go to the doctor?

French here. when sick, I use an app to book a appointment to a medical center I have that's like 5 minutes away by foot ( not typical for all french residents but I am quite lucky with where I live). I usually have an appointment in the next 2 to 4 hours tops. Depending on what it is, I walk away with a prescription and certificate for work stating how many sicks days I have. This costs me nothing, appart from the occasional optional medication that is not reimbursed.

Yes an no, Macron was elected against LePen. This in itself is a problem but macron himself said he was "obliged to the left", then he proceeded to name 7 right wing prime ministers, after his party losing all other non presidential votes. So yes, we voted (reluctantly for some) for him, but he kept wanting to push his policies even after the ppl voted against him several times.

Because it isn't, everyone have sequential thoughts with almost identical "speed", the difference is that some ppl can focus on their interlocutor and stop their train thought (or fake interest in their conversation), while others can't

Falling birth rate in France: 'We may be witnessing a period of very rapid and highly gendered social change'

Something to keep in mind while talking about birth rate in France, is that we have a retirement system that is centered around growth. We do not have individual retirement plans, we pay each month for the currently retired people, and the workers will pay for ours when we retire. This creates a problem when the population of retired ppl is in augmentation and the active population ( working and paying taxes) is declining.

For a long time there was way more active pop than retired so we have a safety net, but it will slowly erode. And currently the political "solution" being pushed is not growing the active population (immigration for instance), but shifting the system towards a capitalisation (ie. Simililar to 401k)

People's Reaction When You Start Speaking Their Language.

Maybe I am assuming a lot of things here but is this your experience with businesses or people in the streets ?

In France we have a totally different approach than Americans for exemple regarding people we don't know. Even between french speakers we will generally not be light chatting with strangers (exacerbated in dense populated areas like Paris/Lyon), as opposed (as I understand) to Americans who can talk to anyone anywhere.

I often wonder if this sentiment of disdain for English speakers is not due to this misunderstanding of our habits.
