First projections of EU Parliament election results

I think the most important topic right now is confronting the climate change and the problems it is going to cause, on every level local, regional, national and international. This looming crisis is going to affect everything and everyone on an existential level, and requires every of these government levels, even every individual, to fucking work and to fucking stand together.

And now my compatriots elect AfD.

I switched my main gaming computer to Mint after testing it on a laptop. Being away from Windows is awesome. You know how everything always wants your attention on Windows? Your antivirus proudly announces its existence. Windows wants to know if it should remove some printers? Some PDF software needs updated RIGHT NOW. There's a license change please acknowledge this 20 page document. Animated attention grabbing everywhere. I always think FUCK OFF when presented with this bullshit.

You know what - Mint doesn't do that. I've not been internally shouting at my own computer since I went that way.

It is serene.

"I'm deathly afraid of the gay, is there any gay in the game? Because I don't know what will happen if I'm confronted with the gay!!!"

"Calm down, nothing in there is going to remind you of these urges of yours, play away."

My translation.

To those who don't know, Italians can be super particular about what pasta goes with which condiment. If the recipe says linguine, it's linguine or you can't cook the dish. Spaghetti aren't acceptable.

Also if you sit with some Italians and want to troll them ask them what they think about farfalle (the bowties) and watch the show, most are super opinionated as well.

Germany's health-care sector hit by skilled labor shortage

The shortage is not due to an aging population, it's because nobody wants to go into this field.

And that is due to the pay not reflecting the extreme exploitation of the workers, in an environment that's not very conducive to a happy life. They all end up burnt out and have nothing to show for it.

They tried keeping the pay down by hiring Eastern European medical personnel, who would work below their qualifications (doctors as nurses for example), but apparently they don't want to work here anymore.

The problem has been going on for such a long time it is now systemic.

Seriously, "aging population"?

People that lived during the Cold War, what was it like?

Germany, born early seventies. Background, there was a strong "never again" sentiment after WW2 and to that end we were educated about the horrors of war from an early age. WW2 and the Third Reich was discussed in school and also very present in living memories of grandparents and their friends.

It was made very clear to us where the first nukes would drop (Germany) and who would drop them (Germans). Flexible response was explained to us, the Nato strategy of using nukes first, as well as MAD. We were given estimated times from sirens blaring to explosion. We visited a bunker, and we were imagining nuclear hellscapes and asking ourselves if one should even try to enter a bunker to try to survive. Pershing II were discussed and MIRV, which were new technologies at the time.

Sonic booms from military jets were common, we would respond to that with "Russians are coming". Not fear, but fatalism was the usual response, and a large number of young men would reject draft and opt for civilian service, wanting to do something productive during service instead of training to get pulverized in the first wave.

Then came Gorbatschow, and Reagan would still pursue his star wars programme, which left us scratching our heads.

HELP! How do I help educate my son about his body when I know nothing about boys?

Besides all the good advice in the thread, about condoms:

He should be somewhat comfortable with putting on condoms, he has to train that before it becomes necessary. There are plenty of videos explaining it, let him find them and check them out on his own terms. Let him know not every brand fits every man. He will need to overcome the awkwardness of buying them in drug stores or supermarkets, if he finds it awkward at all, he has to get over himself and do it. A possible motivation could be that if girls can buy their period products, he can buy his dick wraps.

I find it very commendable that you think about this problem!

I never knew such beautiful words could exist in German

The point is: that goes also for criminals, and prisoners. And yes, it should go for refugees too, even brown skinned ones. Oh, and people on social security. And disabled people.

We did a lot of violating human dignity in the past, that's the reason it's the first article of the constitution. It's a good principle. One that many other constitutions don't have. We can be proud about that.

However I don't think many people grasp the implications of it not being uphold, unless they become a victim themselves, and I believe that a large part of the population does not care or will be favorable towards dignity-violations, especially against the most heinous of criminals, and minorities.
