6-month-old boy dies in hot car after parent forgot to drop him off at day care: Sheriff

Every time this happens, I am reminded of this Pulitzer prize-winning article.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_story.html

It can happen to anyone, but a large majority will never believe that. It's a heart-rending situation.

Intermittent fasting no better than typical weight loss diets, study finds

Of course, it's not better. There is no way around the laws of thermodynamics. Weight loss is a measure of taking in fewer calories than you burn. That's the formulae.

That said, intermittent fasting can be a great way for some people to manage their caloric intake. Some people just find it easier to manage their calories by eating once or twice a day and restricting themselves at others.

At the end of the day, though it's not meant to be a panacea, it's a tool to be used for those that prefer it to other options.

Elon Musk has the worst ‘both sides’ take on latest Trump assassination attempt

I am firmly convinced, based solely on what the tinfoil hat whispers to me, that both of these "attempts" were funded by the GOP as an effort to drive media attention towards Trump.

After all, they have fully admitted to making up stories to get media attention. Is it really too far of a stretch to think that they would pay some poor sucker they view as disposable into being a threat in his general vicinity. The whole thing just feels like a media stunt from a wrestling promo.

it's like two mirrors pointed at each other

The expected outcome is internet collapse. The internet is a mass communication tool that allows bothersome peasants to organize and educate themselves if they are inclined to do so. Which means it must be destroyed.

The poor, disenfranchised, and uneducated are significantly easier to manipulate. So the goal of the 1% is to break society, eliminate the ability to educate, eliminate the ability to organize, and the use their near total control over mass media to assure everyone that they are better off under the thumb of the technocratic state.

Ceiling fan for heating and the Mrs.

I used to have this same conversation multiple times through the years until I realized that ultimately, it wasnt really about being right. The wife was just uncomfortable, and was going to be uncomfortable whether I was "right" or not.

Now I mostly don't worry about the fans, cause her comfort is more important.

Dragged down by an unpopular president, Republicans are bracing for a midterm trouncing

Reply in thread

At what point can you not blame the democratic party for failing to inspire voters in the midst of an authoritarian blitz.

It can't be their fault thought despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars, thousands of hours of research across hundreds of focus groups each year to find out what is popular among voters only to continually accidentally do the opposite and disenfranchise the very voters who should be voting for them.

Surely it can't be the fact the democratic party continually accidentally gives up every political advantage and opportunity to advance by somehow acquiesce to Republicans because this time, "they've learned their lesson".

At this point the democratic party is either controlled opposition, or so completely inept and ignorant that they probably shouldn't be in power either.

Depends on your age bracket, in my opinion.

At 20, it's like catching the game winning touchdown for the national championship when your team was the underdog.

At 40, it's like winning a hundred bucks on a lottery scratcher.

At 50, it's like getting a free order of onion rings with your meal.

At 60, it's like getting an extra nugget in your 9 piece.
