I work on boats but got the same advice. Often the wife sits to the side and I try to draw her into the conversation and ask her opinion.

My wife gave me the advice as she always points out when I'm talking to someone and they don't look at her. To be fair, it often happens to me when she's talking to people, and I'm glad I was made aware of how rude it is.

An entire generation so far

I graduated from an art school with a material art and design degree. I'm not a graphic designer, but I am a designer. What I gave you is called a critique. I'm giving you an outside view point because you are too close and can't see for yourself because you think what you made is the coolest thing in the world. You are telling me you don't care what anyone who sees this thinks because it's already perfect in every way (in your mind) I'm telling you that it's hard to read, distracting, and full of extraneous content that obfuscates your message.

The message is diluted by the infographic. The pretty colours add zero information and instead of thinking about the content I'm left contemplating your design decisions.

Loosey goosey instructions like that lead me to think it's not that important. And he gives you measurements, 7/16ths thick one drill bit below an 1/8th (I guess a mm), and a popsicle stick is about a 1/2" wide. Don't over think it. Put away your micrometer. I'm sure the whole thing becomes "fiddle with it till it sounds good".

Some people will even remove the tags from their mattress! 😱

I'm actually an upholsterer and I'm obligated by law to put those tags on anything I make. I do not have any of those tags and have never done. I worked at a place that got inspected 3 times in the 20 years I worked there to make sure we were putting those tags on things. We had a box of tags and I blew the dust off them every time they showed up.

I just looked at the law and in Ontario at least, it hasn't been a thing since 2001 lol. At the place I used to work we reupholstered rollercoasters (it had its ups and downs) and we were regulated by the TSSA, apparently, which was different from the Stuffed Articles Act which is old news.

That was fun, I learned things!

What does the graphic tell us? What do the colours represent? What do the nesting circles mean? What do the arrows to the words have to do with anything?

I don't have enough information to determine if you're a bad designer, but this one is shit.
