Open source is the modern marvel that nobody talks about. Like the industrial revolution or the building of the pyramids. I know it's preaching to the choir on lemmy. Open source made the 21st century digital revolution.

Sometimes I wonder how much the average person can comprehend the scale of what has been accomplished over the past few decades. I'm sure they attribute it to the power of the corporations' drive for profit. None of that would have happened without the combined effort of people around the world building out one software library or application at a time. There's a behemoth underneath the shiny corporate tech products that is the real achievement.

Some say, born to late to yadda born to soon to whatever. Guy, we have lived in very interesting times. You just haven't been looking. We've lived through the middle of something incredible. I'm sure Jim Ramses was super annoyed at another brick to haul back in 10000BC so the pharaoh can have his stupid tomb or whatever. He wasn't thinking, they're going to be nuts over this stuff in a few millennia.

That being said, I think open source is facing existential trials in the near future.

Every accusation is about priming the field for the inevitable revelations about the crimes they commit.

Tech is being used to speed run the history of every industry with themselves inserted in the middle to collect fees.

Maybe instead of striking they can form some sort of collective entity of their own. Some sort of group providing lodging for travelers. If they get big enough someday they might even have upscale luxury services such as cleaning. I believe the French have a fancy word for this: le hôtel.

The social contract was that everyone was a custodian of that library. That's how we got Wikipedia.

Social media and monetization broke that social contract. Another building was constructed beside the library. People were checking out books from the library and selling them at the market.

Now with LLMs, those books are being burnt. There's a trillion dollar giga-sized building next to the derelict library and the fast becoming defunct market that is industrial scale mass producing pulpy books.

30 is the narrative online where you're pretty much 100 years old. They're convinced once you hit 30 you might as well be her grandpa. The manosphere propaganda feeds off ageism insecurity.

So who could the Republicans get to illegally vote for them? Russian agents? Maybe they bus around bunch die hards to go place to place attending rallies and voting in every location they can.

The smoking gun for me is how much they've been screaming about others cheating. They cheated.

Thirst traps work. The Trump troll farms were doing it back in 2016. Using the methodologies at the time of course. They took every bikini picture they could find and put photoshopped MAGA hats on those women. Spammed those mostly to loner male spaces.

The news cycle can't handle this much.

The content is very shallow. Poor quality, yes. The interaction is there, but it's obviously botted. Not genuine.

The so called American experiment is over. The result proved to be no different. The nature of humanity is perpetually fighting for freedoms.

Their superpower was not their military or their economy. It was the mythology that they were exceptional people and the modern exemplar of democracy. For a while much of the world was to believing too.

Canada's PM Carney said it well. The world put up with them out of convenience.

The Americans took that tolerance as a compliment on their brash attitude. They couldn't adapt when reality diverged from the mythology. Half of them are coping by following the traitor into oblivion. Half of them are insistent reality will return to their mythological storyline.

We've already seen a similar phenomenon happen with social media. It made everyone more stupider. Everyone uses social media so individually one person can opt out but the whole world is revolving around it.

Emphasis on the shadowban, which is the default behavior. You can still submit posts and comments from as many accounts as you want but nobody else is going to see it.

It would be one thing for a corporation to misuse the term open source as they've been doing lately. It's pretty bad for one of the biggest and oldest tech news sites to be doing it.
