I came over to lemmy a couple days ago when r/all redirected me to my homepage. I want to see what everyone is doing, not what the algorithm decides for me.

Its nice when you get to choose huh?

I love the fedi. If I dont see something, its probably because I did something silly with my own feed. And I can actually communicate with the devs on their platforms....or having a paywall/loginwall for just seeing stuff.

Awesome to have you! How have you been liking it so far?

Reddit is mostly bots reposting top level shit from over the years.

Quality has been dropping kinda sharply for a while now in all the major communities. Smaller more niche and professional communities seem to be less affected.

It doesn't help that very obscure things trigger shadowbans, and unlike suspensions basically nobody looks at appeals for those. Reddit support is virtually impossible to reach now.

Couple that with people getting auto-suspended by the Reddit AI bot for quoting movies and new accounts requiring 100+ karma to participate on 95% of subs, old users are being pushed out while new users are being pushed away.

The only people who would bother farming karma now are those who have financial incentives to do so. A lot of the low effort content you see are karma farming bots doing things like splitting old videos and uploading them in pieces to maximize how much karma they can get via multiple posts.

Not just you. A couple months ago there was a week long event which should have had its subreddit absolutely hopping. Like, dozens and dozens of posts and hundreds of comments, more than you could keep up with during the course of the event. Tens of thousands of subscribers.

Instead, maybe a couple dozen posts total, and a few comments each. Easy to catch up with in ten minutes back at the hotel. I don’t know if everybody got banned, or if people are just fed up with reddit.

Before i got banned on reddit it seemed like they where really pushing their automatic moderators and you would get shadow banned, or just straight up banned for even mentioning things like Israel.

Also more and more of reddit is just straight up becoming llms posts, and manufactured subreddits made only to sway Google's ai search results. If its not that its bots asking questions to ask reddit or where ever to train their llms.

Reddit is not for human beings.

If that's the case, I wonder if #Reddit announcing they'd kill #RSS, killing Old Reddit, and demanding login and registration verification has anything to do with it.

last i used it, the frontpage was full but already felt empty. all the repost bots were already making it feel that way.

Seems like it's mostly videos on the fp now. If I wanted tiktok or instagram I'd use those instead. For me, reddit has been about text based interaction.

4

The content is very shallow. Poor quality, yes. The interaction is there, but it's obviously botted. Not genuine.

Idk, I stopped going there a few months ago. And I can't even lurk there without an account anymore. So I truly have no idea.

I've been b& since just before summer but I noticed a lot of posts asking really dumb questions clearly farming responses for some slop article to write.

2

It's not just you. Engagement on my content has been waaaaaay down.

You know how bad it is when people stop going to reddit for porn? Ask Tumblr, lol

2

IDK about quieter, but lately, it seems way more irritating. Slop, same lazy questions posted nearly daily, useless comments like "wow", and same jokes repeated endlessly. And I don't even follow any of the large subreddits, mostly some hobby/interest and local ones.

1

I haven't noticed, but I dont browse all and Im viewing reddit through redlib instance for my subscribed subs which are like pcgaming, emulation, hobby related.

I don't browse the general subs like news topics and social media video reposts, which I'd guess has the broadest appeal and most activity where changes might be more visible.

3

What are the subs you visit the most?

The only one I really visit anymore is a niche sub for /r/starcitizen and it doesn't seem to have declined in activity.

I avoid /all like the plague, it’s a flood of low hanging fruit and meme communities, many of which are indirect and inside jokes, so if you haven’t been part of it you have no clue wtf they’re talking about.

The subs I used to engage with were all hobby/interest related. Certain individual games (not /gaming, though), automotive enthusiasts, 3d printing, and some linux stuff surrounding Raspberry Pi and the like.

Yeah, Reddit has lost sight of what made it great: like-minded individuals curating content for each other.

Now Reddit wants to get rid of mods and replace them with AI, because their shareholders are scared of blackouts whenever Reddit doesn't listen to their community.

It's gonna turn into another Instagram shit hole.

Reddit users subs instead of coms, but IMO, it depends on which you're looking at: The main ones seem to be be worse off.
