So you think that humans can’t cause bad mentals states to other humans? You think animals can’t do that? You think humans can’t spread mis-information, or biases? Or do you think we should get rid of all humans too?

Your strawman arguments bore me. No you muppet, I KNOW humans can spread misinformation, and LLMs make it so that it's 1000x easier, and allow corporations to do so through their product without any accountability.

LLMs USE electricity to produce art

Flat out no they dont. They use electricity to make pictures in the style of human art. Because all they can do is copy the effort of humans that have unwillingly been used as training data.

Do you have an actual point?

Yes, your smartest friends aren't throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks, theyre using their combined knowledge and experience to discern an accurate answer to a problem and if they don't have the answers they can use that knowledge to find the answer efficiently. LLMs will guess the right words to say, then tell you they have the answer but immediately fall back the second its told that the answer was wrong.

So humans can analyise large lines of code in a matter of seconds for cheap without doing it inacurrately? Humans can create dozens of pieces of art cheaply, in a matter of minutes without any inaccuracies? Humans can generate dozens of stories, cheaply, and in a matter of minutes with no mistakes?

LLMs can't do this. They are neither cheap nor accurate, they can merely use their training data to mimic human output.

Computers. Printers. Tractors. Cars. Websites. Courts. Guns.

These things all require humans that have trained to use these tools to perform their task accurately.

I'm done with you, keep shilling for corporations to carry on ruining the planet for the sake of profits, politicians and the richest people alive all you like.

come up with something that LLMs damage that is unique to LLMs, and inherently part of their function.

How about human thought. How about the mentap state of the people that use it. How about the general state of both online discourse and in person interaction. How about the level of misinformation being spread either intentionally or by the machine that tells people they're right all the time providing confirmation bias to the people that are wrong.

Guessing is a very powerful tool, and the smartest people I know spend a lot of their time “guessing”.

Tell me you dont understand how intelligence works without telling me you dont understand how intelligence works.

But they are also “…things which could easily be done by a human, taking away from actual people and putting the benefit of that work into the hands of corporations”.

Alright, what I want you to do is have an LLM tell you how to dismantle diagnose and fix a fault in a car, without making mistakes and without breaking anything in the process.

What part of having a tool and skills takes away from humans and puts the benefit in the hands of a corporation in the same way an LLM made by a corporation takes away from those skilled humans?

Video games “waste” electricity. Cars “waste” electricity. Spreadsheets “waste” electricity. Grow-lights “waste” electricity. I don’t see how LLMs are all that different.

Video games USE electricity to produce art and provide a source of entertainment. Cars USE epectricity to transport humans and cargo from one place to another. Spreadsheets USE electricity to store data from sources such as shops, businesses and people that want to organise information, grow lights USE electricity to provide light for plants to grow.

LLMs waste epectricity by spending time doing something that could easily be done by a human being at a fraction of the cost. WHILE DOING IT INACCURATELY, forcing a human to read through the outputs to identify those inaccuracies, wasting time and electricity by increasing the work required to get an output that a human could provide.

Nice strawman, but no.

Texts allow for immediate communication, letters still allow for a more impactful message, be it emotional or financial in the ay of a birthday card or a bill. Cars and trains allow people to travel further with more lugage than walking, both of which provide more avenue for jobs to be efficient, printers require maintenance and a qualified operator (in the case of large format printing for publications and magazines etc) and power tools are quicker but can be useless in comparison to a human being putting their bodyweight into tightening/loosening mechanical parts. All of these HELP people to do work better or provide avenues for skilled workers to do their job better.

Language models GUESS what word they should say next and fake being smart, while wasting electricity and time by making a human into a glorified spellchecker, because any technical work they're put to is delayed by adding an extra layer where a professional with the experience and expertise needs to check every output for accuracy.

The Revolution Will Not Be Live Streamed

What do you mean "will be"?

We're already there.

Gestapo agents go door to door

Police patrol the schools

Your every movement is recorded and tracked

Your devices and your wifi can and are used to record your surroundings and identify people with a degree of accuracy that would give kaczynski an aneurism.

Your every keystroke and page view is stored, monitored and indexed by companies under the guise of 'legitimate interest'

Any comments that are deemed negative about technology, 'AI' and the actions of the state are monitored and catalogued

'AI' systems are already being used to target people with drone strikes

...And yet we all stand here talking as if these things are from some sci fi dystopian future

So other than statistical analysis, which doesn't use LLMs but instead uses machine learning algorithms, (which I have no issue with) those all are creative endeavours and are trained on data that was once created by a human being, things which could easily be done by a human, taking away from actual people and putting the benefit of that work into the hands of corporations, the anarchist nature of which I am a bit lost on.

Nothing left? Brother it had and has nothing else.

It was started on the principles of "I moved here and now I own the land because god told me so, now stand still while I genocide your entire nationality"

Moved to "I own you because someone brought you here on a boat and I need someone to work the fields."

Moved to "You may have civil rights but we make all the drugs and write the laws"

Moved to "Be free and happy, go do acid and don't look too closely at the vague yet menacing government agents wiretapping your homes, they are here for your safety"

Moved to "Serial killers are everywhere (don't look too closely at them, either. Dont want you seeing their badges)"

Moved to "We need agents everywhere watching everything, and Guantanamos in multiple locations because terrurists."

Its a long line of bloody murder stretching all the way back to colonialism (and beyond!)

What are some things I can do as an apartment dweller to fight climate change/deal with the coming effects?

Mirrored Infrared blocking films on your windows does wonders for cutting down the heat leaking into your apartment during the summer, and leaking out during the winter, you can double up with a clear piece sealed to the frame as well, which creates an air pocket that can trap air and prevents much of the emissive radiation from leaking in.

Im not sure if they exist but you can build little shelf extensions for your windowsills and start growing herbs and edible plants, they'll also help to absorb some of the heat from sunlight that would otherwise warm up your home.

The solution to airflow with only one wall windowed is by using a fan and air filter to pull clean air in during the night when it's cooler. Fitting a window seal for an air conditioner but having that attached to a filtered duct fan (get a brushless centrifugal fan, its way better when you need pressure to go through a filter not just airflow) creates a pressure difference to push the hot indoor air out of the far side of your apartment.

If you live in a very dry climate, 'Swamp coolers' are especially useful for reducing the impact of those months where the nights are too hot to cool the house.

In terms of your personal impact, reducing your meat intake and avoiding products that are individually wrapped/ fruit that are sealed in plastic despite having their own outer skin helps massively reduce the impact, the same way buying locally grown produce will.

Look for things that are local to you, if you need meat with no alternative, get to know a butcher who knows the farmers themselves, because that will be the least 'shipped around the country' meat available.

Ditch the online shopping for everything but essentials, and buy in bulk if you absolutely have to get it shipped to make it worthwhile, it'll save you money in the long run as well.

The way the transparency thing works is similar to a two way mirror; they'll always let light through, but at night the light from the outside isn't bright enough to overpower the light from inside, which is what makes the outer layer a mirror

There are some which reflect about 95% of the light and practically 100% IR that are made of mylar foil like an emergency thermal blanket, think that's what theyre talking about

Jon Ossoff mentioned diaper nurse Natalie, and every Republican completely lost their shit

She's definitely the one putting so many drugs into him that they could bring back and keep Tutankhamen alive, right?

That or she's his handler tht keeps him aligned with [pick a nation currently invading their neighbours]/the international elite that have enough money to not be on the public list of 'the richest' because they can afford the countries, not just the media corps.
