Yes its science, the same lab did a follow-up study where they threw rocks at puppies.

During its juvenile period we prodded rhesus monkey 089 with sharp sticks and observed a subsequent aversion in 089 to sharp sticks in adulthood which is atypical of unprodded individuals.

Time kills us all by a thousand cuts, not clean but time is our vitality too, it pushes us into the world to leave a mark before it is too late.

Your best guess is reasonable, I may have misremembered, it could have been A' spoken as A dash and meaning the complement and I hallucinated the negative but I think I recall some noted confusion with the reciprocal x-¹ = 1/x.

My old statistics lecturer would write x-¹ as shorthand meaning everything that is not x, I thought it was in more common usage but perhaps not. I know it more generally means the reciprocal, he just expected you to know which he meant by context.

It is aesthetic, and probably a metaphor but not sure for what. I could probably come up with something if you gave me a minute. Maybe about the futility of life, or its overlooked common beauty, it's usually something about one of those. We had a downstairs bathroom window that was overlooked.

Any reading list I proffer might be accused of bias, your own search is probably best. My admittedly cursory understanding is a sort of asymmetrically beneficial soft debt trap colonisation of resources and services is proceeding throughout the continent. All sprinkled with a few examples the more old fashioned hard colonisation of the whip. Sadly none of it is likely good for Africans, just as what went before. This all may be a simplistic interpretation but I doubt Chinese minds lay awake at night thinking of ways to help Africa. But Western sleep is not much disturbed in this way either.

Journalism is rearranging the deckchairs. It needs to reinvent itself
Juliet Harrington died on the Titanic, she had a place held for her on a lifeboat but in the chaos she tripped over a poorly placed deckchair and broke her ankle. She could not get into the lifeboat.
