What is your favourite game with native Linux port?
Reply in thread
In fact Linux is the superior version of Factorio, since you get to have asynchronous saves that don't pause the game

My Banking App does have the option to disable this feature.
It's all fine if it's a user choice, very annoying if it's not.

Microsoft may replace the Start button with the Copilot AI in Windows 12

I disabled that realy quickly... If I wanted to search the Web I would use a browser. I can only recomment that, it speeds up search a lot and it now actualy works as one would expect

The It department told me the reason that they don't support Linux is the lack of good endpoint management software and the support overhead compared to MacOs

Microsoft locking local users, Android preventing sideloading…

Oh good, another reason to install Linux on my next reinstall
It might be a stupid reason, I always used a local account even when connecting a Microsoft account later, since I absolutely hate how Windows names the user folder for MS accounts...

What UI design trend do you hate the most?

Thing is you can have a single page app that still works with middle click, depending on the framework it's mostly automatic or some config for the router.
At least that's what I can say from my experience building a single page app, but considering I'm using new tabs extensively I did have some bias to make it work.

Massive Ground planes on a multi layer board were my breaking point.
I tried to clean the through holes where a micro USB port was secured and only could get it cleared by drilling out the solder.... (Only had a soldering iron and wick available)

Let's not forget the biggest issue, mandatory Apps that don't work.
I know of a few Banks that require you to use their app for online banking or as 2fa for online banking. Some of these don't even work while the bootloader is unlocked

Oh Windows knows this is the EFI partition, there is a flag for that. Windows just doesn't care when it decides to nuke your bootloader with its own...
And yes, it's still happening...

The downside of larger groups
I have one group I play in where there are 7-10 Players. It's pure chaos, though since we play very infrequently and a lot of the players don't take the game too seriously it somehow works out.
Still would not recommend unless you like roleplaying with your fellow players until you get to your turn of GM attention.

Destroyed my Glass Print Bed - What to do now
Reply in thread
To be fair the PEI kit I was looking at is a aluminium baseplate, silicone heater mat, magnetic base & the PEI sheet, so basically a complete replacement of the bed.
since the glass is glued to the heater I was looking at a complete replacement at first.

I have a rasberry pi 5 collecting dust, what are some neat useful things i can do with it?
Reply in thread
The Pi 4 is massively overpowered for a PiHole, but if you got one laying around doing nothing, go for it.
I have my PiHole running on a Pi Zero with a USB Ethernet adapter. The WebUi is a bit slow, but the actual DNS with unbound as a backend isn't any slower than on a Pi 4.

You can do the same on Windows (mount ssh shares), there is an Fuse like project for Windows: WinFsp.

I can also recommend EndeavorOS, mostly seamless install even with a Nvidia Optimus GPU (well that one took a bit of research on what to install exactly, not that it's easier on other distros)

If I remember from PirateSoftware talking about this, recurring Twitch subs stop if the billing date falls within the ban window, so 14 days ban means losing potentially half of your subscribers.

If my library is on an NFS share, will Jellyfin pick up new additions immediately (without a rescan)?
99% sure that SMB and NFS doesn't support watching for file changes, so it will only be picked up at the next scheduled scan (by default every hour)

Linux way way slower than Windows?

Do you know what model AiO you have? Some models report pump speeds as higher since they have multiple magnets triggering the RPM sensor, so the 1600 might actually be 800 or even 400, which is way too low for the pump.
I would try setting the pump (and AiO fan) to 100% speed in the Bios for testing. Some pumps work well with a fan curve, some don't.
Edit with more technical details: Normally each revolution should generate 2 Pulses on the rpm Feedback wire. But Pumps don't always follow this spec so might over or underreport their actual rpm.

[RMA] What is this lump on my friend's CPU?
Reply in thread
It could actually, the Heat spreader is usually bonded to the Chip with some form of Indium Solder, which usually has a melting point of up to 210°C (most compositions are around 120-140°C).
Solder likes to form a similar ball around traces and components, since the solder does not stick to the silk screen of the PCB.
And I remember that this is exactly what happened in the Gamer Nexus video, the Indium Solder was melting due to Overheating.
