Pope urges 'disarming' of AI in major manifesto
The pope's AI encyclical was good reading and reminds us to center human dignity, compassion, etc. Lots of ethics to explore with regard to AI and related cultural phenomena.

Buried evidence in Epstein files names Trump Tower (and Trump himself) as sex recruiter hunting ground
Huh, I wonder why GOP senators and henchmen will not abandon Trump? Oh wait, he ran a massive blackmail operation for decades with his buddy Jeff.

Supply is a problem and I agree about existing density-blocking laws. However this is not an either/or situation. Market effects on pricing are aggregate, not annectdotal. Taking private equity out of the market would certainly lower demand. Plenty of housing are sitting empty or underoccupied right now because of speculation.

AI coders are carrying half-open laptops
Close the lid, buddy. You gave your only good ideas to a stranger and they made you obsolete.

Is there an open source no-AI password manager out there?
I like KeePassXC and SyncThing for my own use. I am not sure that I am ready to apply a no-llm purity test if a dev is using a model appropriately. If the code becomes obfuscated somehow, that would be another matter. In the longer term I hope FOSS devs do not come to rely on paid cloud models or favor code quantity over quality.

Alpha-gal syndrome (tick borne meat allergy)
I had a mild case about five years ago and did self-guided gradual exposure therapy. (I do not react outside of bowel cramps.) That worked for me in about 2 months, but I think that approach would be high risk for anyone with severe reactions. I have it again as of three weeks ago.

Seriously. Why are chemicals absurd? Answer: They are not absurd. They are arranged and tuned to your relations with your surroundings. They are sensory organs. Ignoring your senses is a choice I guess, especially when they are badly calibrated or misinformed by fake inputs (social media, rage bait, w/e)

MeetEU is holding a talk about a "European Public Social Network" ~~15 minutes from now~~ **Finished**. Would the Fediverse be relevant?
They could add tremendous focal points for debate / discussion, but I would rather have them own only their topics than own the whole social graph. I would not trust any org to own the social graph, so yes Fedi. I would really like govs to secure my digital rights via zero knowledge proofs of things like citizenship, age, etc.. Give me a way to reveal only what a particular service needs to know.

Weird headline that omits the stated reason for the halted talks, i.e. Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon and Gaza.

I think it is also about the terms of the debate and definitions of self. For me the absurdity is to propose invisible essences that transcend physical reality. My body is my self and I kind of own or rent the material that makes me work. The processes are physical as well, but they are mine too. I freely make decisions all the time, all by myself. There is no other self worth talking about.
