Yeah, just setup a zigbee or z-wave network for your smart home, and just block the MAC address of the controller on your router.
None of the IoT devices will be able to contact anything on the internet, and you can still access them while you are connected to your own wifi.

They never said that is what techies do.
Techies self host a Kubernetes cluster on their server rack at home. They set up completely isolated IoT devices with no access to the internet. They host their own Lemmy instance. Setup their own pirated Netflix using Jellyfin.
