If you were an NPC in a game and only had one line of dialogue, what would it be?
"Wash day tomorrow. Nothing clean, right?"

Reddit fades from ChatGPT citations

Same. Ditched my account during the API nonsense, but I still lurked occasionally on old.reddit. When they made that require a login, stopped going to reddit entirely. Which leaves this place as the last social media I interact with. I'm expecting some kinda ban on the fediverse in my country, just cause that seems par for this course. Then I dunno, give up on the internet? It's half bots now anyway.

Study Boldly Claims 4K And 8K TVs Aren't Much Better Than HD To Your Eyes, But Is It True?
I can pretty confidently say that 4k is noticeable if you're sitting close to a big tv. I don't know that 8k would ever really be noticeable, unless the screen is strapped to your face, a la VR. For most cases, 1080p is fine, and there are other factors that start to matter way more than resolution after HD. Bit-rate, compression type, dynamic range, etc.

grocery robot
Stores don't actually own Towelie. They rent it for $2000-$4000 per month per robot.

One media player to rule them all
I get the sense that VLC doesn't really care if something is a valid video file, it's just gonna start playing and see what happens.

Why we have two nostrils instead of one big hole
We have stereo smell to help with locating smells. There's also the nasal cycle. One nostril/sinus handles most of the airflow, then they swap (the sinuses are separate until they get to the throat). That way one can recover moisture, plus some smells are more easily detected with fast airflow and others with slow. So the nostrils functioning differently gives us a broader range of odor detection. What else? Umm, bilateral symmetry and redundancy is useful.

This is ridiculous
A million seconds is ~11 days. A billion seconds is ~32 years. A trillion seconds is 31,689 years.

That was the satire flag for me.

President Donald Trump bans Anthropic from use in government systems
Anthropic better get their act together, and be helpful during this phase out period, or I will use the Full Power of the Presidency to make them comply, with major civil and criminal consequences to follow.
Anthropic yesterday:
Should the Department choose to offboard Anthropic, we will work to enable a smooth transition to another provider, avoiding any disruption to ongoing military planning, operations, or other critical missions. Our models will be available on the expansive terms we have proposed for as long as required. -Dario's Post
