Top Democrat seems sour after Mamdani-backed candidates oust House incumbents

The DNC is scared. They see what happened to the old guard Republicans (centrist) they started losing to more right leaning candidates. Now those leaders are gone and we have a crazy right leaning "leadership" in power. The DNC doesn't want that to happen to them as well. Yet, I think it's inevitable, we've swung too far right and there is too much pent up anger for the centrist to keep power.

Reddit's auto-moderation

This is shit, yet their banning people has always been inconsistent and unpredictable without knowing why. I got banned 3 years ago with absolutely no explanation why - just "your banned". When I did the auto-appeal I just got a response "sorry, your banned." Never a word as to why so fuck Reddit.

New research shows weight loss is possible without GLP-1

I'm always baffled by the lack of curiosity around this subject. It's just blame the victim for being obese. Just eat less, bro! and then defend that viewpoint to the death. There never seems to be a point where the question comes up "I wonder why only in the last 30 years or so that the western world has seen this dramatic increase in obesity?" Can't be large food corporations making cheap unhealthy foods highly addictive. Can't be a significant reduction in nutrition education. Can't be a reduction in access to mental healthcare.

Nope. Just fatty goin' to be fat. Such a fucking lazy take.

Cards Against Humanity sues SpaceX, alleges “invasion” of land on US/Mexico border

If you’re an original 2017 CAH Saves America subscriber and you want to increase the pressure on Elon, here’s a thing you can post on Twitter (the platform he wants you to call “X” for his own sexual gratification):

In 2017, I paid Cards Against Humanity to protect a pristine plot of border land from Trump’s racist wall. But then an even richer, more racist billionaire—Elon Musk—stole my land and dumped his shit all over it. @ElonMusk owes me $100. #ElonOwesMe100Bucks www.ElonOwesYou100Dollars.com

Or if you’re not a subscriber, but you still think Elon Musk is a charity-embezzling, conspiracy-peddling eugenicist manchild who trades horses for in-flight handjobs, post this:

In 2017, 150k people paid Cards Against Humanity to protect a pristine plot of border land from Trump’s racist wall. But then an even richer, more racist billionaire—@ElonMusk—stole their land and dumped his shit all over it. Fuck that! www.ElonOwesYou100Dollars.com #ElonOwesMe100Bucks

Cities these days

What's crazy to me is this is a well known problem yet the people that have the ability to legislate this have just 100% ignored it.

The presidential candidates in the US either completely ignore it (trump) or give a solution of building 3 million new homes (Harris). No one wants to actually start regulating the number of homes that an individual or company can own. It's an obvious solution to the problem yet, complete silence from the law makers.

Elon Musk’s rightward turn includes a fringe fascination: Civil war

I have a feeling that too many people are seeing a civil war through the lens of Hollywood - where you get to follow the hero and his/her ragtag group. They get into trouble, get hurt and knocked down but in the end they prevail and save the day/country. While there maybe blood and violence it's never really too bad.

What I think people don't understand or want to think about is how fucking miserable a full blown civil war would be for most everyone. Sure the mega-rich will be able to wall off the worst of it, but the 99% are going to feel it and it would suck.

So to all those people that are wishing for a civil war - fuck off. You will not be the Hollywood hero you think you will be, more than likely you will be one of 1,000's of corpses littering the ground.

Harris Tried to Win Over Republicans. Democratic Support Collapsed Instead.

My take on this is that the DNC has never understood that to win the presidency in the last 20 years you need to be a fire brand.

I think this stared in 2008 with Obama who won I believe because he fired up the base with great speeches about hope and change. It didn't really happen, BUT the man knew how to give a speech. That got people inspired to do something and they voted.

Bernie was another fire brand - told it like it was and it appealed to a large population.

trump won using the same idea, but just the opposite of hope and change yet it worked. It tapped into a visceral and deep frustration that this country has left them behind.

The modern view of the American president to the population is less of a wonky politician and more of a cheerleader for big ideas, even if those ideas are abhorrent and exceedingly horrifying.

Harris just wasn't the person to pull this off, she was too wonky and it felt like the entire campaign was playing the old card of "we are not trump" Instead if they really wanted to win they would have found ( 2 years ago) a feisty out spoken progressive leaning firebrand that would have inspired people to vote for something better.

The only reason that (bland) Biden won was because of how badly trump fucked up the Covid response.

'Direct attack': Trump said to be prepping 'much bigger insurrection' after rally comments

Speaker Johnson will refuse to swear into Congress on January 3rd a handful of those Democrats, claiming there are “irregularities” in their elections that must be first investigated.

There’s nothing Democrats can legally do to stop Speaker Johnson from pulling this off: he can postpone swearing a member in for as long as he wants.

Then, regardless of how many votes Biden won by, electoral or popular, the House simply refuses to certify the electoral college votes of enough states that the minimum of 270 isn’t reached. Under the 12th Amendment, like with the election of 1876, that throws the election to the House, where each state has one vote.

While a majority of Americans live in a state run by Democrats, a majority of the states themselves are run by Republicans. Each state gets one vote for president in the House, and right now 26 state delegations are GOP-controlled, meaning that a majority of the House would simply vote to put Trump back into the White House, 26-23 (Pennsylvania’s delegation is 50/50). All totally legal.

Gamblers trying to win a bet on Polymarket are vowing to kill me if I don’t rewrite an Iran missile story

“If you decide to go with your ego and not with your head, you are leaving behind dozens of wealthy people from all over the world who will know that you performed market manipulation and stole from them. They know who you are, you don’t know who they are. It took them less than 5 minutes to find out exactly where you live … how often you see your lovely parents … and exactly who your … brothers and sisters are.”

So the guy threatening the journalist to change his story so the gambler can make money isn't market manipulation, but the journalist not changing his story is....

What scary about this, and it was mentioned in the article, is how future stories by less than ethical "journalist" can be purchased so that one side can become rich. Fuck accuracy it's all about the money.

Well it's not like that is already the case with social media, but I would like to think there is at least some aspect of reporting that is based in ethics and truth.
