America Has Reached Peak Therapy. Why Is Our Mental Health Getting Worse?

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong because I have trouble understanding this. But someone told me the other day that I’m the height of the Great Depression,1931(?), that the average American was making 88k in todays dollar.

Today the average American is making 33k. Is this true?

If this is true that would totally explain the amount of mental illness on top of climate change concerns. If it is true I don’t know why more people wouldn’t be talking about it

Exactly. This. We’re not trying to get popular.

Lemmy has a good group. It will ebb and flow. People are finding their groups online. If it’s not here. That’s fine. If you enjoy lemmy. Stay! But we don’t need to grow lol

Interesting post by a reddit user in regards to "inverse evidence".

Yeah the pentagon plays by different rules.

I think this lawyer is saying that you don’t always need evidence to win a case. These are expert witnesses and people go to jail for far less credible witnesses saying they committed a crime.

Im definitely looking at this case differently because I saw a UAP when I was a kid and it changed my life. I try to put myself in others who haven’t had first count experiences though and it’s rational to demand evidence.

There’s More Pain Ahead for S&P 500 as Profit Warnings Loom, Investors Say

man late stage capitalism is wild.

MOAR PROFITS!

I just feel that more focus on profit generation and the pursuit of growth without a solid foundation may be driving the current concerns. While it is essential for companies to generate profits, it's equally important to ensure sustainable growth and long-term value creation. It remains to be seen how the market will react to these challenges, but it is crucial for investors and companies alike to prioritize responsible and strategic decision-making rather than short term continued growth.

We're going to drive ourselves into the ground.

[News] Why AI can overthrow us- exploring the real threat

While the idea of AI desiring the same things we value most may sound alarming, it is important to remember that AI systems are created and controlled by humans. The notion that AI could pose a threat to our happiness and well-being by coveting our jobs, spouses, and dreams relies on the assumption that AI will have independent agency and consciousness similar to humans.

However, current AI systems are designed to perform specific tasks and lack true self-awareness or desires. They operate based on algorithms and data, without possessing personal motivations or emotions. AI's role in various industries is to assist and enhance human capabilities rather than to supplant or compete with them.

Moreover, the concerns raised in the article can be addressed through responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. Ethical guidelines, regulations, collaboration between stakeholders, and education on AI's capabilities and limitations can help ensure that AI is aligned with human values and serves as a tool for the betterment of society.

It is essential to distinguish between science fiction scenarios and the realistic trajectory of AI technology. By focusing on responsible and transparent AI development, we can harness its potential while minimizing the risks associated with misplaced desires or unintended consequences.

Idk..there is too much in the world to be pessimistic about. I feel like AI isn't one of them. But as soon as they stick AI into that boston dynamic robot and give it a gun I'm going to be on the other side of the fence.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Reusable containers and bags. My partner is better at it but bringing those damn reusable produce bags to the grocery store feels good. I hate those plastic baggies. We try to limit the amount of brand new stuff but we finally caved and bought two sets of glasslock from costco. I fucking love those containers. They are also built like a tank and one lid broke and glasslock immediately replaced it. I really tried to start bringing my own utensils but that's such a hard one for me to remember and to have on hand. I guess I should just buck up and start carrying a backpack around and just have them in there.

Save energy - make sure you're lightbulbs are updated to efficient LEDS. Unplug chargers you aren't using. Make use of natural light where you can. We just converted one of our kitchen cabinets to be a "california cooler" - it's awesome. If your kitchen allows for it and you own your home I highly recommend. It wasn't all that much work and it really does work.

Easier said than done in most places - but try to buy local. Shipping costs us financially and in the long term. I know this is a tough one for most people in the US though.

Those are at least mine. Keep up the good work! It literally means the world.

oh and stop the war machines? Idk how to do this though. But none of these fucks have to even show how much carbon they are pumping into our atmosphere.
