This free font can trick AI scrapers into swallowing gibberish instead of your content

Most mass scrapers, on the other hand, simply grab the raw HTML underneath. ShieldFont exploits this difference through an automated process called OpenType glyph substitution.

That said, because the whole defense rests on scrapers reading code rather than screens, taking a screenshot of a shielded page and running OCR on the image can still recover the real words.

Screen readers used by blind readers also work from the code, so they read the decoys aloud. ShieldFont ships with a beta feature that provides those readers with the real text instead.

Risk of Parkinson’s disease may increase with prolonged exposure to road traffic noise

Pioneering study linking noise pollution to Parkinson’s finds 3% increase in risk for every 11.5dB rise in noise levels

Existing research has found potential biological pathways that link noise exposure to Parkinson’s disease, largely due to stress responses and disrupted sleep.

The study, published in Jama Neurology, included 3.1 million Danish participants aged 40 and over, and followed them for 18 years.

Cloudflare teams up with Chrome, Edge, and Firefox to tackle bot traffic without CAPTCHAs

Cloudflare is working with the makers of Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on a new way for websites to tell whether incoming traffic is legitimate – without resorting to the usual mix of CAPTCHAs, logins, and extra tracking.

The system is called Private Access Control Tokens, or PACT, and it arrives at a time when bots have surpassed human traffic online.

Spider which uses spring trap to capture prey discovered in Australia

Researchers say their hunting method - which allows them to prey on dangerous ants - is unprecedented.

The snare's "exceptionally high power" flings the ant into a bigger web at "15 times the most extreme g-forces experienced by jet pilots", said lead researcher Prof Ajay Narendra.

"The snare mechanism seems to have evolved as a highly specialised way of allowing the spider to 'pick off' potentially hazardous prey one at a time and transport them a safe distance away from ant trails and nests," researcher Dr Jonas Wolff said.

Comparison to Hitler, Mao, Stalin? Trump says: ‘Sounds good to me!’

‘Historian’ claims ‘overwhelming difference’ between him and rogues’ gallery of autocrats is that Trump is more powerful

“Historically, powerful people were characterised by brutal conquest and the fear that they instilled in the populations that came under their influence. Common names that would come to mind are Alexander the Great, the Caesars, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hunt, Tamburlaine, Napoleon and, more recently, Hitler, Mao, and Stalin.

“The overwhelming difference between each of the above when compared with President Trump is their lack of global reach.”

“Sounds good to me!” Trump wrote, naming the author as “presidential historian Dave King”.

Antarctica’s west coast missing an area of sea ice the size of France as temperatures peak 20C above average

A vast area of the Bellingshausen Sea should be covered by sea ice by now, with one expert calling the loss of ice ‘depressing’

It’s winter in Antarctica, when sea ice expands rapidly around the continent peaking in September.

But satellite observations showed the Bellingshausen Sea – on the west side of the Antarctic peninsula and which by June would usually be covered by ice – was almost completely ice free.

Brazilian woman, 38, accused of years of ‘elaborate fraud’ by posing as a child

Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira faces fraud charges after allegedly persuading family to take her into their home

During the nearly 16 months she lived with the couple in the city of Joinville, she reportedly had all her expenses paid, a bedroom decorated with toys and children’s furnishings, and a party to celebrate her purported 12th birthday.

The couple told police Oliveira first approached them at an evangelical church they attended, introducing herself as “Gabrielle” and claiming to be 18 years old. She reportedly said she was experiencing financial and health difficulties, prompting the couple to take her in.

She later allegedly changed her story, claiming she was in fact 11 but appeared older because her father had forced her to take hormones and had sexually abused her. She also allegedly persuaded the family not to enrol her in school or formalise any adoption process, arguing that doing so could enable her father to find her.
