Probably 2 to 5 years. Lemmy kinda just works and is usable right now. To become better than Reddit the experience needs to be seamless.

Dopamine is a hell of a drug.

The sad thing is there's a right way to do everything they want but this ain't it. Spez is litterally digging a hole using the bricks he could be building with.

That seems really broad tbh, like me and my doctor friends try to convince people they should brush their teeth twice a day would fall under that.

I mean while he could physically fly away very easily it's unlikely he would risk losing access to his properties and accounts in the US.

The recent document leaked by Google kinda claims otherwise though. It's less about quantity now and more about quality.

Fuck yeah love to hear it.

Been playing Divinity Original Sin 2, trying to finally finish my first campaign with a friend committing genocide against the magisters before BG3 releases.

Eh unless they made the ads indistinguishable from regular posts then 3rd party apps would just filter them out. I guess Reddit could get around that by disallowing it as part of their API TOS but then they would need to make sure the popular 3rd party apps don't do it and also possibly sue them when they do.

Probably 95% of that is overlapping since one person being subbed to 20 participating subs is counted 20 times, and since some default and massive subs are participating there must be a ton of overlap.

Considering how much time I hope to get out of Starfield, once that releases I won't mind the wait.

Most people are probably just doing something completely unrelated. Remember 99% of people aren't spending a ton of time online.

I won't lie I only preordered because I wanted the 5 day early play. My excuse though is that I literally have not preordered a game since we still needed to get them from Gamestop and I've been waiting for Starfield for like 5 years now.

Yeah but hopefully they are refering to the common stuff that happened to everyone like cars flying around and killing you randomly in Fallout 4.

How can you view the list of defederated instances?

Edit: Nevermind found it, it's at the bottom of the page click Instances and then scroll to Blocked Instances.

Yeah discoverability is definitely one of the biggest weaknesses of Lemmy right now in terms of federation. If all the communities I'm interested in are split across hundreds of instances it needs to be very easy to find all of them.

Yep, I believe there was a bot for reddit that used to do something similar. If we could put that on a website or something so you could just paste the url and get the relevant quotes that would be perfect and make it easier for the poster (and they can always custom pick quotes if they want).

Ah that's true, then really what is the problem? Do they want more analytics that they get from official clients? Or is Steve Huffman actually just an idiot?

Edit: Actually it seems like they do just want the tracking data from the app since they are now blocking people from using the website on mobile https://lemmy.world/post/57306

Yes.

Yeah 30 to 60 is a big difference. Past 60 things definitely start looking real samey though.
