Wondering what is next

Wasn't a huge fan of the move to 3D animation but it wasn't all bad. Movies like The Mitchell's VS The Machines and Klaus show that 3D animation can have a ton of soul and style. Think the problem is most corporate studios just failing at making good stories / art most of the time in pursuit of the lowest common denominator.

That said, fuck AI slop. Soulless by definition

Do people shower before wearing bike shorts, use a bidet, or some third thing? What is the preparation process?

I imagine what you normally do to prevent poop particles should be fine. Also I believe most people wear underwear under bike shorts? I cycle almost daily but just wear regular clothes or gym clothes so not entirely sure with padded bike shorts.

Also, having grown up all my life with bidets and "bum guns", it never hurts to clean down there with some water and soap anyway.

Assassination is a Leaky Abstraction

it is the right moment for everyone who builds systems of control to reflect. It’s the right moment to pierce those layers of abstraction that allow you to get through each day, and question why it’s so financially lucrative for the system you’re building to exist.

Because there is no abstraction as leaky as a man waiting outside your hotel at 6:45 in the morning with a gun and murderous intent

Amazingly written article, last line giving me chills

*Permanently Deleted*

TWO international reporters shot in a single day.

Here I thought the article got the nationality of the reporter wrong only to find out they're just aiming for reporters in general now apparently...

authenticity problem

This was the discussion on a recent post, which seems to be deleted now, about "AI" art on beer cans in the Mildly Infuriating community.

It's really upsetting how much art is now seen as AI looking when AI art only looks that way cause it was trained on great art. Anything stylized, slightly sepia, realistically shaded, etc etc, automatically assumed to be AI when some people have trained decades to develop this style themselves, but now it's just slop style

FastCompany: E-books are fast becoming tools of corporate surveillance

I honestly hadn't considered that eBook licensing data could be used in the way they describe in the article. EBooks becoming part of big data surveillance somehow feels especially disheartening to me.

Lately I feel like I've been duped for years since I used to believe strongly in the phrase "if you're not paying for it, you're the product" but it feels like with every paid product or service nowadays you're STILL the product...
