Those were the days

Also MySpace was one of the first platforms to use a built-in targeted advertising model, and partnered with Google for both adserve, indexing, and search. To say they didnt sell data is the same as saying Facebook doesn't sell data, they were the data user, selling ad space based on profiling users.

Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next year

No one talking about how this could completely annihilate open source .apk development? First off the lead dev has to get identity verified to get a key, which will reduce the number of devs willing to push through friction to start a project. Then when the key is issued and it is posted to the repository, what keeps anyone from grabbing it and using it for another repo? We'll they have an official app registration of some kind, ok, what about version control? Does every new version have to be registered before it can be loaded and tested? Same for forks?

This is about to be a terrible mess, Google is assassinating FOSS with this.

Explain that

Simple difference: spiders chemically synthesize long chain fibers not amorphous filament, the fibers are self supporting with tension, whereas hot printed plastics deform under gravity.

You could theoretically print this way with a printer that had a flow reactor nozzle that mixed the reagents for fiber formation on demand instead of a hot extruder, I have yet to see this but it seems likely the textiles industry is working on it somewhere.

This Mysterious Drug Can Erase Addiction ‘Virtually Overnight’ | WSJ

Ibogaine. Yes it works to cure adictions, and yes it can kill you due to impacts on the heart. Fully healthy people with no known heart conditions do drop dead occasionally while using Ibogain. Also you might have the worst trip of your life, like dragged down by a demon into hell style, or you might see the blessed virgin and be bathed in rainbows and forgiveness and come out a new person. You never know.

Generally more people have positive experiences and outcomes than negative in a clinical/therapeutic setting. Is it worth the risk? That's up to you.

In-depth scientific review of Ibogaine and cardiac risk: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4382526/

Could rising sea levels caused by climate change be thwarted by digging a big hole at the bottom of the sea?

Possible yes, practical no. Effectively you would need to build a new sub-continant to have an appreciable impact on sea level. That said, you don't need to dredge from the low point in the ocean, all that matters is displacing solid material from below sea level to above sea level, so the best option would be to find a shallow sea with an existing archipelago of islands and build up from there making it a deep sea with the islands connected as a continent. Alternately you could go after reefs, despite the collateral damage, with the great barrier reef being the obvious choice, essentially pump up dredged sand from the surrounding ocean bed onto the reef to make new land, the reef has the advantage of being very shallow and stabilized with lots of surface area, so good for making lots of land if you don't mind being the architect of an ecological apocalypse of unprecedented proportions.

Dick move.

On top of that, is the largest single scar on his Vescar armor, even looking like an actual crater. Someone didn't just shoot him on the dick, they scored a cock shot with a canon and he walked away.

Foot pursuit through a minefield

different size balls for different size hitches. All hitches are removable, you can flip those over to fit different implements. Imagine that, removable, almost like there was a legal requirement they be removed while not in use.

How decentralized Bluesky is compared to the Fediverse.

Actually there is a legal definition, a Public Benefit Corporation has statutes in its articles of incorporation which legally commit the company to pursue a set purpose which supersedes the fiduciary responsibility of the corporation to shareholders. This is important because it provides some degree of legal protection from activist shareholders suing the company for making spending or policy decisions which don't directly maximize shareholder value. The body of law around this issue is still relatively murky, but some defense is better than none at all.

For example, shareholders could attempt to sue BlueSky into increasing advertising placement or data sales functionality intothe core platform to increase company revenues, but if that is at odds with their stated public benefit purpose the legal team for BluSky would have grounds to attempt to dismiss the suit on the grounds that the shareholders purchase the shares under the explicit understanding that these functions would be subordinated to the public benefit goals of the platform.

Richest American to FAFO?

Bernie Madoff had the largest fall from $65 billion estimated at peak to $17 billion at time of arrest then dying in prison.

Changpeng Zhao of Binance will be the richest person in the US, and probably ever, to do time in prison after conviction, but his wealth won't be impacted and it is only a few months, so hardly much Finding Out involved.

Sam Bankman-Fried is potentially an even bigger Find Out than Madoff, because unlike Madoff who maintained a large estate even after going to jail, SBF has gone from around $24 billion to $15.5 Billion at time of arrest, to now close to zero on paper as almost all his wealth was tied up in FTX and crypto and it was "all" siezed as part of his conviction and the FTX winddown. Now that said, he probably has a lot of crypto stashed in cold wallets somewhere that have appreciated substantially since his arrest, so it is hard to know how much he would be worth if he ever got access to them, but as I understand it he is basically banned from using computers and facing over 100 years on his sentence, so he better be putting in a lot of good behavior of he ever hopes to see any of that secret stash again.

Doctor who left patient during operation to have sex with nurse allowed to practise

Open secret of the surgery business is that the CRNAs (specialty anesthesia nurses) do all the actual anesthesia work, the Anesthesiologist's job is really to pick the anesthetic based on patient history and bloodwork, do the calculations for dosing based on body weight, and attend for interventions if something goes wrong. The Nurse he put in charge when he left was almost certainly already doing all the work anyway and he was just twiddling his thumbs with a hard on in the corner.
