What the user was doing is that they don't trust that the system truly deleted the account, and they worry it was just deactivated (while claiming it was "deleted"). So they tried to do a password recovery which often reactivates a falsely "deleted" account.

I've done this before and had to message the company and have them confirm the account is entirely deleted.

I was ambivalent about systemd up until now. If this gets merged I'm moving to a non-systemd distro. I do not live in California or even the USA. I do not want age verification garbage in my OS.

Has nothing to do with spam and everything to know who you are. Spammers don't use "burner phones".

What I do is just take out the card a plug it into a little USB dongle thing which I can plug into either my phone or laptop.

What's wild to me is that anyone would do it any other way. I'm astounded that this is somehow a "tip".

You know, I was fine with LTT for a while (many years ago). I knew they were clowns, but they seemed genuine and well intentioned. Their first Linux challenge made me raise my eyebrows at them, because I was a long time Linux user and knew much of what they said was either off the mark or disingenuous.

Then their storage server video came out and I almost fell off my chair with the levels of bafoonery I had watched. Even the real experts that helped them out had a hard time keeping their words civil while discussing the postmortem of the situation. That's when I lost respect for LTT and Linus Sebastian as a tech "expert".

Then all the other stuff about the lies, the made up metrics, the years of garbage test data from negligent and lazy practices, and the cherry on top which was the Billet Labs thing. The arrogance of Linus Sebastian to do the test in bad faith on a GPU that was explicitly stated by Billet Labs to not be the target device, and then Linus whine on the WAAAH Show that it would cost him too much money to do a proper retest, and then just selling off the prototype. Then doubling down twice in a forum post that LINUS SEBASTIAN is somehow the victim in all of this! Poor Poor Linus Sebastian.

And the moron couldn't even do an apology video without making some wise-ass joke. Couldn't read the room the one time he needed to do it.

He's just an ass-hat.

We've been quiet for years now. Google's been on a path to turn Android into a locked down system for many years at this point.

Remember when they ran ads suggesting that if independent mechanics had access to the car's software that it would result in stalking and assault? Remember when they said the only way to keep people safe is to protect that data by only using "qualified" mechanic shops (aka dealers)?

Turns out all of that was a lie. Total shocker, I know.

They don't have to be level-headed, they just need to be able to work through issues. Which is happening.

It's better for people who work together to say what's on their mind while having respect for each other, than smiling nicely and thinking badly of each other.

It was a weak attempt to keep relevance when faced against Gemini and Claude. But it's completely unnecessary now that OpenAI has contracted with the government. They get all that sweet tax payer money and get to repurpose a ton of GPUs making stupid videos to supporting that new gov contract.

JSON data within a database is perfectly fine and has completely justified use cases. JSON is just a way to structure data. If it's bespoke data or something that doesn't need to be structured in a table, a JSON string can keep all that organized.

We use it for intake questionnaire data. It's something that needs to be on file for record purposes, but it doesn't need to be queried aside from simply being loaded with the rest of the record.

Edit: and just to add, even MS SQL/Azure SQL has the ability to both query and even index within a JSON object. Of course Postgres' JSONB data type is far better suited for that.

The issue with climate change was never with "heat production". It's always been the generation of heat trapping chemicals. The sun sends a stupid amount of energy our way. Generally the earth radiates almost the same amount back out into space, with a minor amount captured by various things, like photosynthesis.

Pollution alters that equation and causes more energy from the sun to get trapped in the atmosphere. That's the problem. We could never generate as much energy as the sun (even the tiny amount that hits the earth), but we can definitely alter the atmosphere to trap more and more of that heat.

Also, the ocean is a MASSIVE heat sink. I saw someone work out the calculations recently, I don't remember the numbers, but the conclusion was that we'd never measure a notable increase in ocean temps if we housed every datacentre in existence in the ocean. The sun hitting the ocean every day dumps more energy into the ocean directly than we'd ever be able to manage.

It all comes down to pollution.

The conundrum here is that admitting his stance was wind would take a level of intelligence that would have had him vaccinate his child in the first place.

I know that's oversimplifying it, but the point still stands.

I watched a video of his a few years ago, and thought "interesting take". Then I saw another video of his recently and thought "this guy's nuts. Prob a flat earther too"

I hate using a phone. It's small, the screen is tiny, the keyboard sucks (all touchscreen keyboards suck), you can't have more than one thing in the tiny screen at a time (yes split screen exists and Android has freeform windows, but they suck even more).

A desktop is a breeze to use. It feels liberating to use after being on a phone.
