'Bioshock Review' - MandaloreGaming

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler You may recall that in the original, Ryan believes that Rapture can stand on it's own ideals and grows increasingly paranoid that the only real threat for the society is outside interference, such as from the CIA destabilizing it. We see that these delusions are baseless and rapture collapses under the weight of its own misguided ideals. However, in Burial at Sea part 2, Elizabeth frees the imprisoned Fontaine, who had been presumed dead, attacked by Ryan's forces for his increasingly rebellious behavior. This, in effect, means that Elizabeth is solely responsible for enabling radical revolutionaries to start the Rapture civil war, resulting in the collapse in the style of a CIA backed coup. :::

There's a lot more, it decanonizes Bioshock 2 while being internally inconsistent with it's own story telling in the same spaces, and the Daisy Fitzroy plotline doesn't really make sense, in a way that cheapens that, as well.

Oh yeah also

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler Because Elizabeth causes the civil war and gives the ace in the hole to Fontaine, prompting the entire plot of Bioshock 1 by setting up Jack, and then she goes out of her way to save Sally, because she sees Jack will eventually save her and the other little sisters, once again undermining the original game's other original message about player agency, that Jack starts with no agency but breaks free of his conditioning and gains that agency back to choose the ending, but actually, no, Jack was always destined to do things one way only and never had any agency. On top of that, really weird that Elizabeth decides that her own death is okay because Sally would eventually be safe, given that she condemned all of Rapture to death along the way. :::

Completely agreed. Rapture WOULD AND SHOULD have collapsed under the weight of it's own misguided ideals, that was kind of the entire point of the first game. It just really undermines that message fundamentally when instead

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler an all knowing demigod comes to specifically fuck up your society on a whim. :::

I do also agree that, given the contradictions between 2 and infinite, we as players get to decide what the prime canon is. It's kind of damaging to anything that might show up moving forward though unless a brave writer comes forward going "okay sure but fuck that, it didn't happen"

Absolutely agreed on the "wouldn't it be cool if..." But not thinking out style of design. That's not terrible, but it's better suited for something completely over the top like 40k, rather than a more grounded setting like bioshock. And yeah, they really did just nail the worst version of multiversal story, in the general sense.

We're celebrating this victory!

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler Even though the player character is a literal demigod that exists amongst all timelines and is deciding, based on relatively little, that she should abandon that power and die to save one person, at the cost of thousands. :::

To quote a Minnesotan I know, talking about chili: "I'm going to add some mayo, to give it some zing"

Luckily the twin cities are sanctuary cities and you can get people who aren't whiter than rice to make food here

Alright let's see what I can remember! Most of this is pulled from the Behind the Bastards podcast episode on him (great podcast about terrible people) and the rest is supplemented from wikipedia to refresh my memory.

It's worth noting that, possibly due to Seagal's mob ties, a lot of folks who have come to court with credible accusations have subsequently mysteriously withdrawn their accusations or otherwise failed to finalize their court cases.

First off, bro wants to fuck any woman he thinks he can lay hands on and has had consistent credible sexual assault accusations against him his entire career. Particularly noteworthy is that he worked REALLY HARD to try and get Ray Charles' granddaughter alone in a room with him during an impromptu casting event at his home after meeting her at Ray's funeral. Her dad, Ray jr, tagged along and prevented this initially, but she was hired as his assistant, and walked on day one after he explained what kind of "massages" he expected. This habit of sexual assault also applies to minors, to whom he has bragged, in adult life, to that it's fine, because he has girlfriends their age (bro lies about anything and everything he thinks will make him sound good and cool though, so make of this what you will, on multiple levels)

His time as a cop was actually aired as a tv show: Steven Seagal: Lawman. As stated, he drove an army surplus tank through a home. He actually SHOT the 11 month old puppy afterwards, separately from the tank thing, in the same event.

As stated, he got his start through mob ties and, around the turn of the millenium, when he walked out of a mob funded film deal, was sued and threatened by a crime family over it. He subsequently narc'd on them and some arrests were made following his testimony on RICO act charges. Seagal would subsequently settle out of court. Everything I've heard about the man makes him sound like a cowardly bitch, so I'm assuming they bled him for millions.

He has a long record of deliberately hitting stunt performers during fight scenes, because of course he does. There is one story of him claiming, baselessly, that thanks to his aikido training he was immune to being choked out (???), so a stuntman indulged him in a bet and subsequently choked him out. I've heard a number of similarly amusing anecdotes about the man one might call instant karma on a variety of obviously bullshit lies, many of them involving stolen valor. The dude LOVES to pretend he was black ops, navy seal, whatever sounds good at the time (imagine why he started a film company to keep making movies about him actually being these things into his late age. Dude is a massive LARPer)

Dude owned two human trafficked Russian women for some time, keeping them as sex slaves. Iirc, this occurred during the time he was filming being a cop (it may have been before, one way or another, the accusations didn't keep him off the force)

Speaking of Russia, dude is a huge fan of Putin (wild how the best people somehow consistently become friends with dictators) and has described him as "one of the great living world leaders" and endorsed invasions of Ukraine. He's also cozied up to Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines and Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela

That's all I can think of at the moment, but it's been a good use of waking up in the middle of the night wide awake. There's probably more I'm forgetting, though

He promises a subsequent Bioshock 2 review, but I really hope he makes it to the Infinite DLC. Without spoiling anything, that dlc fully undermines the entire message of Bioshock 1 and leaves Andrew Ryan 100% correct and justified in all of his actions.

Anon wonders what went wrong

Afaik, most ED is caused by being out of shape. The penis is basically a blood balloon, and your heart has to work hard to keep it inflated. If you aren't doing any sort of cardio, you can fall below that threshold. Luckily, that means with some cardio, most of the time it can be reversed

I actually really hate that every hobby should be incorporated into hustle culture these days. You crafty? Sell what you make. You like fixing things? Charge people for it. You play video games? Stream.

We've built a world that only cares about cash and it's exhausting

It's actually been this way for a while. The top 10% of American earners do half of all consumer spending. A massive amount of the economy has shifted to reflect this. Businesses are often targeting business to business sales rather than business to customer. Pay to win video games use free players as content for whales to play through. And if you're selling physical goods, you're probably either doing it as cheaply as possible, or absolutely gouging the assholes you're selling to (think ikea vs Kohler's premium brand, for which a lamp costs 5 figures and the website doesn't gave prices listed).

Can you imagine at 32 being hit with so much rizz from a 97 year old that you'd be down to clown, only for them to die inside of you? Either grandpa was the most charming motherfucker of all time or that grocery clerk was at a dark place in life.
