Well well well
Congestion pricing is such a good idea everywhere there is rock solid public transit alternatives. Where there's not, it just becomes a tax on the poor.

Has Trick-or-Treating died in your area, and what is to blame?
Lots of neighborhoods just don't have that many kids left. They've grown. Easily 80% of my suburban neighborhood is over 65. And they've been here since the 90s.
When young families can't buy homes their trick-or-treating becomes relegated to their apartment complex or (when those complexes are sketchy) to trunk or treats.

Trump orders ICE to expand deportations in Democratic cities
Almost like he wants to engineer a conflict he can use to grab more power and attack his enemies (political players, not "the little people" who he gives no shits about).

"the enemy within"
Sadly some people think "revenge" is a good enough platform to qualify sometime for the top office. As long as the revenge is at least pretending to target people they already don't like or that they've been programmed to think had wronged them in some way.

Bet you can't guess who this tax increase will hurt most. Hint: It won't be the rich.

Hit the old man enough to win by decision but not actually hurt him. That's the only real winning path - and exactly what happened.

Why limit immigration?
There's also the carrying capacity of the area they're emigrating to. Housing in particular is one aspect of it that's already very very tight in most of the Western world. Even without immigration per se, this problem plays out every time a major company moves headquarters to a new city/state. Lots of new people, and a very slow to respond housing stock means surging prices. Schools and other social services also get stretched - but they're much quicker to respond to the demand.

Why don't electric car manufacurers put solar panels on the car roofs?
Reply in thread
For comparison, my rooftop solar array, with around 16 full-sized panels (~6kwp) produces just under 2 miles per hour in my electric car (around 3.3kwh/mi). Or in real life, takes about 2 fully sunny days to produce the power to charge the car.

Qualified immunity for police officers could end in Ohio as path paves forward
Reply in thread
Unless I read it wrong, Ohioans are planning to propose a state constitution amendment to end police qualified immunity. This rolling says, yeah you can do that. It still needs to get on the ballot and be voted on before anything changes.
Who is on the side of ending qualified immunity: pretty much anyone who isn't a cop or authoritarian. QI is basically legal armor for cops to do anything they want as long as it can be read as (waves hands) "following protocol".

US: Trump signs order ending union bargaining rights for wide swaths of federal employees
Maybe those federal workers should use some of the other tools in their collective action toolbox.

Americans, if you put yourself in the shoes of Washington, Jefferson, Adams and their ilk at the founding of this country, what questions do you think they would have for the leaders of today?
Why the fuck are you still looking to us to give you answers? The whole point of this thing is to give you, the contemporaries of your time, the power to change the system to meet the demands of the day. And somehow you're hung up on what we did or did not write down?! Embarrassing.

Well, we have both location gated and time gated populations, so observational study should be fairly trivial.
