EA is shutting down BioWare and the next Mass Effect has been canceled

I’m a bit out of the loop with studio purchases, but were they going under originally and needed to sell? I have to assume anyone selling their company knows it’s on borrowed time.

Was hoping someone did the calculations, I figured that tag price would have been a lot back then. I hope they were way more durable and turnable than the ones I grew up with.

Whats a secret you'll never tell anyone irl?
Reply in thread
Forums, chat rooms, irc, email and other forms of communication existed way before facebook and it were not labeled social media. Social media is its own beast. I would not categorize Reddit and like platforms as social media.
Similarly in terms of words, I saw an article ranking fast food places and basically listed every brand chain restaurant as fast food. Terms should have meaning.

Of course. I’m sure many more words will keep being invented for concepts. Social media to me is more about being a real persona with identity and connecting with people and having followers. It’s also designed to keep you on. Most of the fediverse is about anonymity and we don’t have enough content for doom scrolling.

‘Lanterns’ Season 2 Won’t Be Greenlit Until the Writers’ Room ‘Comes Up With a Worthy Successor to a Great First Season’
Reply in thread
John turned the Lantern signal to draw Guy Gardner in. Guy visited John when he was in jail and mentioned that Hal should be buried with his ring. Guy said it’s heavily protected and he’d get in trouble for trying something like that. John guilted Guy and basically made him feel like a scaredy cat. The mental manipulation worked on Guy. The next we see Guy he’s standing in front of the casket and tells John they are even now.

Intel is laying off over 15,000 employees and will stop ‘non-essential work’
What’s crazy to me is that they are laying off more employees than the total number of full time employees I’ve worked at for most companies.
They are laying off 12% of their work force.

What do office workers actually do?
Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late. I use the side door, that way my boss can't see me. Uh, and after that, I just sorta space out for about an hour. I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too. I'd probably, say, in a given week, I probably do about fifteen minutes of real, actual work.
The thing is, it's not that I'm lazy. It's just that I just don't care. It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now, if I work my ass off and the company ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime. So where's the motivation? And here's another thing,I have eight different bosses right now!
So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my real motivation - is not to be hassled. That and the fear of losing my job, but y'know, it will only make someone work hard enough not to get fired.
Now they are trying to offer me some kind of stock option and equity sharing program? I have a meeting tomorrow where I am probably going to be laid off.

I don’t know how people running these projects aren’t ever fired. It’s an endless dance of lemons.

More common than you think unfortunately. The internet has given anyone the option to find their mental echo chamber.
My parents are hispanic immigrants (both citizens) who voted for trump, are republicans and also hate immigrants. They believe all the Obama drinks children blood stuff, are antivaxers, and since my older sister is with them, she is now also an antivaxer so her children have zero shots of any kind. (Good luck to them in the future if they want to travel)
One of them believes aliens speak to them. I’ve seen a group in my family go to cult like events where they all dress in the same white uniforms and talk about the universe.

Who guards the guards?
Once on vacation with my wife, we were on a highway and saw a woman painting her fingernails while driving. She was doing this for a few mins and we heard a police motorcycle coming up from behind and we thought “Oh nice, go get her”… but they pulled us over instead! Apparently where the highway ends it goes from like 75mph to 30mph. Turns out cops hide in the area to catch people. It was a hefty ticket too since we were technically going “40mph” over (like everyone else). During the rest of our stay we noticed motorcycle cops everywhere! They were just camped out all over with radar guns in pairs trying to catch people. We ended up hiring a local lawyer to appear in court (since we had to appear in court for the ticket as well), since we obviously weren’t from the area. It was dismissed and we paid less for the lawyer than it would have been to pay the ticket plus insurance would have gone up each month.

Reboots and remakes: why is Hollywood stuck on repeat?
Looks like articles are also stuck on repeat.

If you could regulate something relatively inconsequential, what would it be?
Oncoming car headlights should not blind you. Companies need to stop making these and if they are custom jobs, this should be easy tickets for the police.
