I know the last time I posted I said I was going to work more on the solid line style, but I spent 6 hours on the road visiting Maine for the first time and just wanted to chill with some painting. No plan, no technique, no skill, nothing even slightly resembling skill. Just painting and chilling.

I plan on doing more with this technique, maybe a haunted house from another dimension.
When I get new tools or feel like I've progressed far enough in my skills I like to do a self portrait. Since I know my face better than anyone else's it's a good baseline for me. My wife took the reference picture and I think it's extra good.

Reference art for an occult horror game circa 2018. This room was set up as a device to summon Satan (or a version of them that also went by Ereshkigal, Charun, and Helel ben Shara). He took the appearance of George Washington, and always laughed in two different voices (kind of like Audrey II). A fun encounter to run, my players seemed to get a thrill from it.

I added some constraints to challenge myself. No undo and no erasing even though I could on this digital medium. I had to commit to every line as if I was really using a water ink pen. It was fun. Idk what this guy is, some kind of long sword wielding demon I guess. Name it.
Very old one. Probably 2009? Drawn amid work notes.

I love him in Rob Roy, Pulp Fiction, and many other flicks.
Tried gray adjacent colors and I don't care as much for how it turned out. Thought it would add some warmth but it just looks weird to me.

Back to measuring, drawing without it is exhausting like any new skill. This is slower but comfortable and more accurate.
I like the monochrome with the bold colorful background so I kept.

A blender render of an extra dark shadow styled character. I was scheming on making little animated shorts and found this style compelling, though a little finicky to work with.
Using a fude fountain pen and a glass of water to do some sketching and ink wash. Added in some carbon pencil and brush pen for texture.
