‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Powers To Amazing Second-Best Global Opening With $927M WW

Crazy how quickly this movie is making money. This movie should in theory have less draw than No Way Home and people are eating it up. Shows what a good story can do. There is for not at least no Spider-Man fatigue.

I hope the lesson here is not “just make more Spider-Man” movies.

List of games that come loaded on their cart/disc

As we’re heading into the age of digital only downloads and more people start to scavenge for physical media, I was wondering if there is a list out there that catalogues if the game doesn’t need any downloads, patches or internet connection. I assume starting during the ps4 era it became more common place to only have partial data on physical media. I’d love to know what will be worth collecting/searching for in the future and what will potentially just serve as a frisbee.

Today is the 40th Anniversay of Zelda!

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/43419708

Known in Japan as The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda. The main title was dropped in the US to make the name shorter and some claim it was to avoid confusion with the upcoming Squaresoft Final Fantasy game, which would debut a year later.

The Legend of Zelda was inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto's explorations as a boy in the surrounding areas of his home in Sonobe, Japan. One of his most memorable experiences was finding a cave entrance in the middle of the woods. After some hesitation, he entered the cave and explored its depths with the aid of a lantern.

The story and setting were developed by Takashi Tezuka. He drew inspirations from fantasy books such The Lord of the Rings. The legend of the Triforce was written with inspirations from the battles of medieval Europe. The Master Sword was introduced as their version of Excalibur in A Link to the Past, which is regarded as reminiscent to the legend of King Arthur. Princess Zelda was named after American novelist, socialite and painter Zelda Fitzgerald. Tezuka modeled Link's appearance after the eponymous character of Walt Disney's Peter Pan.

Switch games that use touch screen

Hey. I was wondering if anyone had a list of switch games that use the touch screen. I want to game more at night when the wife is asleep and the buttons tend to wake her up.

I really enjoyed playing Banner Saga on the switch for this reason. There’s a few that I had in mind, but most seem be cheaper to buy and play on the phone.

Currently playing Dungeons of Dreadrock which can be played with the touch screen.

There aren't any ancient ruins with crazy traps and riddles

As I was thinking about how fun it would be to have a job where you solve puzzles in the world, it struct me that media never depicts archeology in a real light. My short search seemed to confirm my thoughts. Most ancient sites are not guarded by elaborate traps or secret riddles to get in. From what I’ve found there were some crossbows here and there. Some rare hidden rooms with a lot treasure, but again, no traps.

Will pictures have the same meaning they used to?

My parents have saved tons of boxes of old family photographs growing up. They are fun to look at from time to time, because it used to be a bit harder to create photos. I wonder if the next generation of people will collect moments the same way we used to, seeing how quick and easy things are posted online. I’m sure many of them don’t even have pictures saved locally somewhere and rely on social media and the cloud to store their past.

How Zelda and Studio Ghibli inspire happiness and purpose

cross-posted from: https://reddthat.com/post/48384923

This study shows that playing an open-world game, such as The The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and nostalgia evoked by Studio Ghibli films significantly foster a sense of exploration and calm in life, as well as a feeling of mastery and skill, and purpose and meaning, hence ultimately contributing positively to one’s overall happiness in life.
