Crazy how quickly this movie is making money. This movie should in theory have less draw than No Way Home and people are eating it up. Shows what a good story can do. There is for not at least no Spider-Man fatigue.
I hope the lesson here is not “just make more Spider-Man” movies.

This movie is pro surveillance btw. I don't think it's a coincidence Disney is actively trying to make their biggest star sort of like Batman. But here without any nuance or repercussions. Just a throwaway joke to address it. They discuss the dangers of Edith in Far from Home only to give him his own AI that does everything for him, even scan people's faces across New York within seconds. Who needs clever writing when they can insert AI that helps do every detective work for the hero.
I regretted watching this in the theatre honesty. I'll avoid Disney movies on the big screen from now on.
Isn’t that a general Hollywood issue overall? I’m not sure it’s just a Disney thing. I feel like that’s been a plot device in many science/tech related movies that last 20yrs. It hasn’t gotten any better since the “zoom in and enhance” days started.
Also Edith can destroy the whole world, so I think we’re on very different levels of tech.
Unlike before now there has been widespread discussion and criticism of facial recognition software. So to not touch the general dislike towards it and just use it like any other tool is "trying to normalise it". Also Tom Cruise using mass surveillance is way different than the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man using it. This in my opinion was a deliberate push by Disney. Why do you think they are making Spider-Man of all characters always having an AI assistant?
I guessed the Edith reply was coming. You're right on that. But it's funny to me that MCU Spidey took 8 movies to "grow" as a character and yet he repeats the exact same mistakes. It's tiring atp.
They are giving him ai because it’s kind of everywhere now? There’s even been ai characters and villains for some time now in comics. Hell, Ultron was ai. I assume it’s getting more flack because it’s topical. Spider-Man not learning from his mistakes is a pretty common staple. It’s been a really long time since I’ve read one of the comics, but rising and falling is kind of his thing. Batman and Superman have similar character structures in that they tend to stay the same. I guess one can argue that Nolan’s Batman tried to be different since he actually managed to quit.

To me Edith came across as a "the guy in the chair joke" since Ned wasn't around. Didn't think of it too much past that.
the story was the worst part about this movie. its a boring young adult trope with a minor hiccup anyone with a heartbeat saw coming.
the dialogue was good, he plays a great spidey.. but damn was it kinda boring knowing exactly what was going to happen.
I didn't enjoy it as much as no way home but it was definitely a good story about loneliness and isolation
I've yet to see it, so can't comment on its predictability. However with what's going on in the world today, I can certainly see people wanting to escape reality for a bit with a new variation of feel-good story format that's well-worn and comfortable.

i watched this in a double-feature with the equilizer 3.. it also suffered a rather boring story, but it was much more cathartic. it provided a level of satisfaction the recent spidey did not. it actually provided the context of a much more identifiable good over evil..that familiarity you mentioned.

I stayed away from most spoilers, so I didn’t know what direction it was going in. Where they took it felt refreshing to me, and that’s all I’ll say to avoid spoiers.
Idk what was so refreshing. He still has Stark tech. He's still overshadowed by other Marvel characters and storylines in his own movie. Still with a very bland basic script. Mcu hulk is still a punching bag. And now Spiderman also uses mass surveillance without a care or repercussion.

Idk what's so different honestly. The direction and colors changed but it's still very much the exact same. It's not bad, it's just average.
What stark tech does he really have? I don’t think anything was handed to him. It looks like he put it together himself. I may have missed some logos if that’s the case. His shooters are bulky All his nano stuff is gone and his suit is not cgi.
::: spoiler Tap for spoiler As for why I found it refreshing. It’s because it wasn’t a Spider-Man villain, as he’s gone through most of his popular ones. This was not a story that could be told under Toby or Andrew. Connecting Spider-Man’s mutations with the upcoming Mutant stories is not something I expected, nor him being responsible for part of the tragedies that are going to befall them in the future. I don’t know much about Jean Grey’s childhood, but this age hasn’t really been focus on, we got a little bit of it during the more recent X-Men movies. I liked the parallels of them losing someone and having mutant like powers.
I personally enjoy seeing the Marvel characters, because it makes New York feel like a lived in city, again something that could not be done during the previous eras. It gives him people to act with in a scene. I think he paired very well with Punisher and I don’t think he overshadowed him. I would love to see him with some of the Defenders. Jean wasn’t revealed until the end of the movie, so I’m not really sure how she could have overshadowed him.
And while I agree about the Hulk, I’m not sure what they can really do until they get the full rights back. He’s going to keep be a smashy smashy side character. :::
How is MCU hulk still a punching bag? In the comics there's a issue where everyone has forgotten peter. And hulk says in the comics not the movie, banner forgot peter hulk didn't.
Even though it's not in the movie it's definitely a call to. I thought the punisher hulk scene was great.

Did we need a hulk fight? He was a punching bag in the movie. Idk what you're talking about. Punisher crossing hulk while shooting him was a ridiculously funny scene. Hulk shows up in MCU, beats the heros for a few scenes, calms down and risne repeat.
I don’t think they can do a full Hulk movie yet, so I’m not sure what other options they have. Had She-Hulk been better received they could have used that as an avenue.
