Only big brother Canada has the right to pick on lil bro Quebec!

No idea, lol. Despite my nationality I never got hockey-pilled. Much to the detriment of my social life 😞.

No judgement here, and a complete aside to this post topic, but I find team sport fanaticism fascinating. I live close to two cities with competing professional sports teams, and people can get HEATED over it. I will never understand that. Like, most of those highly paid individuals aren't from the city their teams are based in. Heck, some aren't from the same country.

I guess it's similar to brand fanaticism? People have weird arguments about Apple vs Windows, Apple vs Android, PlayStation vs Xbox, etc. Like, ya got no stake in that fight dog. The success rate of these multimillion dollar entities does not reflect upon the personal qualities of any particular fan.

Don't read into my mad ramblings. I don't think being a fan, even a hardcore one, is bad. I just personally don't get it lol. I'm probably the one missing out in all this.

like we ever talk about quebec let alone canada down here

I dunno, your president guy has been talking about annexing Canada a lot this term. And the reduced travel from Canada has been one of the topics in this werido "trade war" we seem to be in. So at least on a federal level it seems like y'all are talking about Canada.

That said, I think this meme is in reference to Trump's trade offer that would have allegedly weakened Canadian French somehow, which Trump refutes.

P.S. Lake America? Really? Might as well rename Lake Erie to Lake Creepy while he's at it.

P.P.S. The name “Ontario” is derived from the Huron word “Ontarí’io,” which means “great lake” or “beautiful water.”, so the province is named because of the lake(s) and not vice-versa. Here's more on that if anyone is interested.

Buddy, I never claimed to know your people nor was I claiming to speak for you. Try not to be too delicate.

The line claiming the word is Huron is a direct quote from the National Museum of Great Lakes page that I hyperlinked. You got a problem with it then write them a letter.

I also posted a link to a Government of Canada page that says it came from an Iroquois word if that helps. I didn't specifically quote that though because I didn't want to confuse people. Ontarí’io "looks" more like Ontario than kanadario so I went with that for simplicity. History is messy and I didn't want to spend too much time trying to find which claim was more correct. Both the Huron and Iroquois words seem to exist and they are probably related, but I am not Huron, Iroquois, a linguist, or a historian. I just tried to do right and share both for anyone who's curious. Anyone who isn't curious would hopefully at least come away with "Ontario comes from an indigenous word", and that's a win in my book.

Try not to let my P.P.S. fun fact get you so worked up. I'm sharing here, not trying to "talk smack". Being a butt-hurt reactionary does not win us any non-indigenous friends. Phrases like "I know my people better than you" come off as needlessly aggressive and I personally try not to do stuff like that (except for that one time my neighbourhood got a cree/nehiyawewin name and I got into fights with people who thought it was too hard to pronounce). If you have better info then I think the best path is to share so people can learn.

Sydney's car-brained candidate for Mayor

We had some winners in my city a few years ago.

Here's my favorite quote from that article:

“The money is in the car,” Comrie insists. “Who’s the spender? Does a bicyclist go and buy sporting goods, or furniture, or clothing? Or are they just out for a ride?”

Does this guy think cyclists are sitting naked in empty apartments wishing they had clothes and furniture? Luckily he did not win the election.

Here's a description of the bleeding process:

https://www.horseshoecrab.org/med/bestpractices.html

It's specifically non-fatal:

Bleeding horseshoe crabs to death is not an acceptable practice in the U.S.

The volume of blood taken is actually quite small, as most of the material in the collection jars is anticoagulant.

It may look uncomfortable to us humans, but keep in mind that horseshoe crabs are not human. What's normal for the spider is chaos for the fly. Granted, it would be kinda weird to be hoisted from your home by a giant ape and forced into a blood drive. It's done as gently as possible though.
