What's the most basic thing you can't do?

Was surprised I started mixing up left and right after I broke my right-hand wrist while biking.

Turns out I subconsciously associated "right" for the direction my stronger hand was on, and once my left hand started feeling like the more dominant one during recovery - my brain would automatically choose that "right" should be on my left-hand side instead, until I actively thought about which direction is which.

This gradually decreased out as my right hand recovered and got back to being the dominant one over the next few years, but was eye-opening what shortcuts my brain uses for such basic things.

Yuntai: Hiker finds pipe feeding China's tallest waterfall

When they wrote this "promted explanation from the water body itself" I thought it was some funny wording for a water agency or sth, not that they'd actually attempt to word their answer as if it's from the waterfall itself, lol.

The park later posted on behalf of the waterfall saying, "I didn't expect to meet everyone this way". "As a seasonal scenery I can't guarantee that I will be in my most beautiful form everytime you come to see me," it adds. "I made a small enhancement during the dry season only so I would look my best to meet my friends."

Gabe Newell caps off Steam Machine week by taking delivery of a new $500 million superyacht with a submarine garage, on-board hospital and 15 gaming PCs

Reply in thread

This yacht is many things, one of them being a floating lab. It's not like it isn't a super-luxury yacht for $500 million, also. Or like he hasn't a couple more super-yachts.

I mean, good for the man, good that he's doing marine conservation on the side, or that he actually cares about his companies, employees, etc. But also, wow, what kind of amounts do billionaires spend on playthings, and what you could do with such money for the betterment of society.

That's very insightful.

So in other words the pomegranate dripping blood is allegory for her getting her starting her menstrual cycle, hence becoming a woman and being sexualized from now on?

Offtopic, but after reading these comments, I'm so glad I first opened Lemmy today rather than Reddit. Thoughtful, varied discussion, instead of sifting through a ton of samey "joke" comments to maybe (if ever) find some nugget of humanistic or original thought, or get bored, doomscrolling and lose hope in humanity.

I just love this community, thank you all for being here.

Ukraine Rejects Bulgarian President’s Claims That Kyiv Is to Be Blamed for Russia’s Ongoing War

Our president is a piece of shit. Good thing is that after we finally got a working government he isn't controlling almost anything of substance. So he can make his shit speeches until his term ends, and we will still help Ukraine as much as we can. Sad thing is, some part of the population still listen to him and Russian propaganda spewing, refusing to think for themselves.

It was really funny last week when Zelensky got invited and he had to publicly meet him, all our pResident bullshit talking points got refuted on national TV by someone with much more cojones than he can ever have, leaving this MF-er looking like a fool. I really hope this way good logic reached some people.

Uncircumcised penis owners, did you ever wish you were circumcised?

he got a circ as an adult. Apparently crazy painful recovery.

Yeah, no. That was probably due to someone's more complicated circumstances.

Did it myself as a young-ish adult due to worsening phymosis and recovery was normal, couple of weeks or a month like any stitched wound's healing would do. Only weird and uncomfortable thing was the initial sensitivity of the tip, which completely waned off for the recovery period. I read plenty on other cases as I considered the circumcision myself, and nobody mentioned a painful recovery, recoveries sounded about same as mine.

Circumsizing your children is not really a thing in my country, except for muslims, but even if I had a boy I'd guess personally I'd leave it to them to decide if they need it when becoming an adult.

BYD’s Second-Generation Blade Battery Makes Western EV Tech Look Ancient

Reply in thread

Do I understand correctly - you charge to 80%, have zero degradation, but also only use 80% of your battery at most because of that.

Your fast-charging friend, meanwhile, has been using all 100% down to 93% battery for these 1.5 years. Maybe, in a bad scenario his battery will degrade to 80% in 1-2 years and he'll start using only 80% of his like you?

Where's the upside in this, unless you're both planing to use same phone in e.g. 5 years and you might get ahead in battery capacity finally?
