"No matter where I've traveled in the galaxy, Jim, this bridge is more like home than anywhere else." - Ambassador Robert April
The Enterprise is escorting the famed Ambassador Robert April, first Captain of the USS Enterprise, to the Babel Peace Conference for his retirement ceremony. April expresses reluctance to end his career in Starfleet when a ship is found moving at impossible warp speeds towards the Enterprise. Captain Kirk moves them out of its way, but it continues speeding towards a supernova. Lieutenant Sulu puts a tractor beam on the runaway ship, but it just causes the Enterprise to get dragged along for the ride. Kirk tries to communicate, but they respond in what sounds like gibberish as they continue to race towards certain death. However instead of burning up as expected, both ships find themselves in an anti-time universe where everything runs in reverse. Now they can understand the pilot of the ship, but find the chances of getting back to their own universe are mathematically astronomical as everyone on the Enterprise begins to age backwards.
