Now, the reasoning in that fallacious logic is that the Proboscids (ancestors of elephants) and Hyracoids (ancestors of cute little hyraxes) indeed once shared a common ancestor!
Thing is, YES-- they did... around 60-75Myrs ago. Also yes, all others of their relatives didn't survive in to modernity, an incredibly common thing across life & evolution.

Perhaps another way of saying that, despite all the natural branching-points of life on Earth, is that only a tiny fraction of the species that once existed on our Ball o' Fun are still alive today (maybe about ~0.5% as a median estimate?). And... that's just the way the ball bounces, I suppose? :S

[META] A frank, short commentary upon the state of our community--
I want to point out that this lovely "quotes" project is @[email protected]'s idea, and I love it dearly, and do try to interject some life here & there, as much as I can, not unlike how I try to keep some of the now-retired @[email protected]'s communities going, you know?
But I'm just one little tadpole, mates, and I have similar love upon a range of other /c's, such as CassetteFuturism, FullMoviesOnYoutube, HistoryArt, HistoryPhotos, HistoryArtifacts, Funny, ComicStripEdits, two LEGO communities, and then a bunch of other situations like this, haha. So yes indeed, I'm a toddler of sorts, saying to myself "okay, maybe let's slam this geometric shape in to this other geometrically-shaped hole?!" Whoah!
And yet I have my own dedicated community I run at the same time, which has somehow been going for 3+yrs, and 666 posts as of the moment. Foof...

Wordy version - So, late in the day on Monday, my internet service (Spectrum, Midwest USA) did some kind of "planned upgrade," which wound up (temporarily?) killing a landslide of key sites for me, such as TheGuardian, Pinterest.com, archive.org, TinEye, Patreon, streamable.com, fandom.com and even bloody well Amazon! Even Google Image search craps out after I upload the image.
Now, I -think- this is from someone I previously posted here 2+yrs ago, but I'm getting older, and... well. 665 posts is a boatload of posts to search through when you can't remember a good key-word. :S
Funny thing is, I was trying to put together a little dossier on Horacio Altuna's BD art when I stumbled upon this one. One problem with that of course is that Altuna loves to spotlight a million+1 artists on his Twitter feed (see prior post), and this was one of them. But it's absolutely not him!
"Fire and Ice," one of the most astonishing masterpieces of rotoscoped animation in film history.
This is one of those short-list films (like TRON for example) in which traditional movie critics were heavily-confused by in the early 80's, and therefore received a muted response. (well, that's my common take, anyway)
Yet this remains a Swords & Sorcery, roto-scoped, towering accomplishment for the ages, with great scene-flow, super-good voice-work, and one of the most satisfying plots you'll ever see in movies, without any cheap plot points to grease the wheels, so to speak.
This is an absurdly good film to be free to watch, and there it is... arguably Ralph Bakshi's mega-masterpiece, along with his other mega-masterpiece, American Pop .

Each homerun was hit to a completely different area of the stadium. This is important to note, because almost every power-hitter in history has a certain 'range of success,' i.e. a certain area of the outfield in which their individual style and skills work best to hit to, based on the pitches they commonly see, plus other factors, such as the way MLB pitchers specifically throw to them.
In terms of the context noted, Báez' accomplishment is likely ~99.9% an instant-sports record that will never be broken. And it happened from nowhere, just like that!

As I understand it, chariot-racing was an enormous event during the heights of the Roman Empire, and the OP pic is possibly the legendary Circus Maximus or an analogue, which I understand was duplicated in part all around the ancient Roman empire, even across a large swath of Northern Africa.
There's also a landslide of information to comment upon in terms of those colorful flags... the Reds, the Blues, the Greens, and the Whites. Each faction (plus a couple others) was backed by powerful financial - political entities, backed by hyper-enthusiastic fan-bases. (haha, fast forward 2Kyrs with futbol, and has anything really changed? XD)
