Trump Begs Europe to Help Him Bring Down Diesel Costs He Drove Up

The Group of Seven Nations agreed Friday to release 100 million barrels of oil from its stockpiles—following a desperate plea from the White House.

The G7 held an emergency meeting Friday morning to discuss global energy costs. The discussion came in the wake of a pressing call between Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the U.S. leader asked for assistance amid the current oil crisis and floated the idea of banning U.S. diesel exports, according to CBS Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan.

Donald Trump announced after the meeting that “Europe has just agreed to release a massive amount of their heavily stocked Diesel Oil. The process will begin immediately.”

The European barrels are expected to hit the market over the next four months.

Donald Trump is a rapist. All this is happening because Donald Trump forced himself on little children.

no, he didn't beg

he threatened to stop selling US energy to EU

He'd be a moron to do that tbh. Right now the US is massively profiting off the high energy prices. Not its people but its oil companies at least.

Because the oil industry has enough money and influence to fuck him right back. Unlike his investors in previous projects.

There are a lot of reasons, most of them suck.

Short answer is he's just the front man for a much larger demographic and he's got a lot of financial systems held hostage because of almost 100 years of the US working to make the dollar the global currency. He's everyone's problem.

He's everyone's problem.

No, no, no, haven’t you seen the posts all over? He’s America’s problem and it’s their mess to clean up.

There’s absolutely no global impact on the rise of far right ideology and it’s certainly not trending up in pockets around the world.

The puppet regime that is the Trump administration isn’t an indicator of a larger global oligarchy problem at all.

The rest of the world ain't gonna throw him out. The USA have to handle this. The only country regularly invading others to change their governments is... well, you get it.

9

If you want Americans to throw him out, don't help his team just before election.

This move not only telegraphs that Europe + Canada and Japan wants him in power but also makes them release the supply that they will need.

Old but still true. “But there’s a reason. There’s a reason. There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason education SUCKS, and it’s the same reason it will never, ever, EVER be fixed. It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it, be happy with what you’ve got. Because the owners, the owners of this country don’t want that. I’m talking about the real owners now, the BIG owners! The Wealthy… the REAL owners! The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want: They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago. They don’t want that! You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shitty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this fucking place! It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it! You, and I, are not in the big club. By the way, it’s the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table has tilted folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care! Good honest hard-working people; white collar, blue collar it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-working people continue, these are people of modest means, continue to elect these rich cock suckers who don’t give a fuck about you…. they don’t give a fuck about you… they don’t give a FUCK about you. They don’t care about you at all… at all… AT ALL. And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes everyday, because the owners of this country know the truth. IT’S CALLED THE AMERICAN DREAM, BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE ASLEEP TO BELIEVE IT.”

At least it's a little harder everywhere else because most people haven't devolved into a political system of only A and B. That shouldn't make people elsewhere feel safer. It just means you have more time.

I used to think the EU was pretty solid but I've been seeing the ratcheting effect over there in recent years. With one or two bad actors completely stalling out protections. They better watch out.

5

Agree. ‘The most uneducated buffoon in history stands at a podium, bloated with self-importance, lips pursed like a carnival barker ready to sell turd milk to the unsuspecting. He grins a grotesque smirk stretched across his face as he scrawls his name onto a hollow decree, a sham celebration of the dismantling of knowledge itself. The Department of Education falls, not with a bang, but with wheezing verbs, suffocated under the weight of his own staggering ignorance. Surrounding him are the usual suspects: cowards in expensive suits, servile sycophants clapping like trained seals, and racist opportunistic ghouls picking clean the bones of democracy. Liars, fools, and thieves all parasites fattening themselves on the hardships of the many. They stand in rigid formation, dead-eyed and soulless, their allegiance sworn not to country, not to principle, but to power, and the dark, festering rot that clings to it. And there he is the convicted wrong, the living embodiment of septic tank spew, his voice a noxious fog of grift and grievance. He lectures the world on right and wrong, irony clawing at the walls, desperate to escape the grotesque theatre of his moral void. The stomach turns, the air curdles, and for a moment, history itself recoils watching, in horror, as the great American experiment teeters on the precipice, led by a man who couldn't spell "precipice" if his life depended on it.’

19
lemmy.world

This is factually untrue, at least in this case. If Donald had done what presidents always do, we'd still be in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In his first term he pulled the US military out of Syria and negotiated the withdrawal from Afghanistan. His record was consistent with the position he took in his campaign not to start forever wars.

The American people had good reason to believe we wouldn't be involved in another forever war and were also lied to.

And this is coming from someone who hates him as much as you do.

-8
takedareply
lemmy.dbzer0.com

Everything he did somehow benefited Russia. He pulled from Syria right after US displaced mercenaries called Wagner. Russia took US positions.

He pulled from Afghanistan, freed captured Taliban soldiers and turned Afghanistan to Taliban. Taliban has friendly relationship with Russia and regularly visits Moscow.

He withdrew from Iraq, Iraq is helping Iran.

He started war with Iran just when the price of oil was so low that Russia was selling oil at a loss, then immediately removed sanctions on them (which doesn't increase supply, only allows Russia to sell at higher price)

1

Everything he did somehow benefited Russia.

Or was done to spite Democrats.

All of the good byproducts of Donald's presidency have been unintended. I fully agree. (And just making it clear, that's not sarcasm.)

1
lemmy.world

Ignore all evidence.

Respectfully, you're the one ignoring the evidence here. It's a matter of historical record that, in Donald's first term, he got the US out of forever wars. So at least on the issue of war, it made sense for people to expect him to do the same in this term, because the pledge was consistent with his historical political actions.

1

That's false. At the end of the day it was Biden who is recorded in history as having withdrawn from Afghanistan though it is fair to say Trump wanted to make that happen and did some things to work towards it. It was also pretty clear that his support for Israel was more unquestioning and he actually contributed significantly to the destabilization of the middle east during his first term. He was also already doing some of what he's really been doing in a much bigger way to NATO and allies back then, another obvious destabilizing thing that may well lead to further conflict.

The least understandable mistakes people who bought that he'd be some kind of a force for peace did were to think his extremely divisive attitude could not extend to war and thinking he could be trusted on anything he says.

2
sh.itjust.works

They are not helping out of their own volition. It's extortion. Europe imports 50% of its Diesel from the US. If we say no, not only the consumers will suffer, but the economy as a whole. Massively.

18

Didn't Europe learn anything for the past 10 years? If it somehow benefits him he will do it anyway.

I doubt he would do it though as this would actually increase prices in US as well.

The reason for it is that US doesn't have infrastructure to deliver diesel everywhere on its territory. Manny states import it, because that was more economical way. They likely would continue importing after experts are closed (as the only other way to deliver it is via diesel consuming trucks which is very expensive).

Now, because all of the produced diesel cannot be consumed, the refineries would have to reduce production which would further reduce the supply and increase prices.

That whole thing would also be a massive loss to his billionaire friends who own oil companies as for them this high price situation is a good mine.

The only time I see him ban experts is if Vlad would ask him to.

1

Also it's just on paper, like the agreement in summer last year where the EU agreed to buy more gas from the US than they actuallly produce, or invest a certain amount without any way of enforcing it.

It's just for the headline, nobody has any intention of following up, trump is just too dumb to realize that.

5
einkornreply

6

WSJ/US press repeating them, are pretending that 90% of prewar transit has occurred this one time at band camp. If it were true, China would be buying it and getting massive refining profits from exports. Iran has hit over 7 ships in last 2 weeks attempting to transit without its permission. Even if they were getting out some oil, region needs ships to go back into SoH.

One of the few reasons I haven’t installed solar this year is simply that i want to stay close to my savings in case of job loss.

But imagine buying a petrol car in this economy. I’d rather have a used Musk car

2

I understand. I was able to muster enough to set some solar up and am happy about that. I am due to replace my vehicle and I am no longer looking at petrol autos and instead am trying to tell myself that the loss of privacy going into a newer EV might not be so bad? Maybe...? I do not like the choices, but am fortunate to even have those.

1

The loss of privacy has nothing to do with EVs that's the same on all modern cars.

I'm genuinely asking, would getting the fuck out be enough?

He would need to capitulate. He would need to acknowledge his fuckup, to the satisfaction of Iran. I don't think he's capable of that. Not simply that he doesn't want to, although that's also true. I mean he's not equipped to negotiate an end to this hostility.

5
piefed.zip

Serious question: if Europe were to fully commit to installing renewables, how much dependence on diesel would it maintain in, say, one year? I mean really putting it all in, like a war economy but with this

16
filisterreply
lemmy.world

The whole transportation business run on diesel. There are currently no good truck EVs and if there are they will require special charging stations, so it would be very difficult to change to renewables and EV overnight.

We will still be dependent on petrol though, but much less, but petrol is needed in the chemical industry for the production of plastic, for plane fuel, etc.

11
frongtreply
lemmy.zip

No. If you're going to spend the time and money (a significant amount of both) to run catenary lines and set up power stations, you might as well replace the diesel locomotives with electric, instead of converting them.

1

Sorry, I don't know nearly enough about trains to be talking about them. I guess when I said "electrify" I thought that meant replacing them with electric trains...

2
feddit.org

Don't forget freight ships. A quarter or so of worldwide commerce is international shipping by sea. I'm not aware that there's any commercially viable solution for powering these ships with renewables. The closest I know of are US Navy Carriers, which don't require diesel, but they're powered by nuclear reactors, which are neither renewable nor commercially viable (not that the USN would care about profitability) and require a huge amount of expertise to maintain.

6
feddit.org

Then I have been misinformed, thanks for the correction. Still, they're dependent on oil for now, which is gonna become more and more of a problem than it already is.

3

But less of a problem for things like ships that still use fossil fuel as other means of transportation move away from fossil fuel.

2

A nuclear tugboat model where the shipping boat ("barge") is attached to the nuclear tugboat by some linkage is probably inevitable. It would give a way to meet security requirements of the barge crew never having access to the tugboat while still having sustainable fuel and not having to redesign all ships. If Maersk didn't have a research paper somewhere in a drawer doing cost estimates for that, a fully nuclear container ship, and a time estimate for when current fuel sources run out then their 50 year plan is probably incomplete. I'm sure there's a bunch of companies who've done stuff like that without making it public like with Exxon and climate change.

2

That would be a lot slower, a lot less consistent and thus a lot less commercially viable for bulk transport

1

Depends on how much society is willing to sacrifice. One year isn't long, but you could conceivably get just about every car and van off diesel, get just about everyone off heating oil (which is just diesel), go crazy on electric trains, dramatically decrease construction and electrify what you can there, and switch backup generators to gas (which doesn't really help the climate of course but helps with no diesel). The biggest near term issue is likely heavy transit. You could displace some with trains and petrol/electric vans, but there's going to be serious rationing going on and supply chains will be hanging on by a thread. Farming equipment also a big issue. Hydrogen might be able to start replacing diesel for these uses but within a year is crazy ambitious. This would be hard to do in a decade.

Regardless, we need to approach this from a "war economy" standpoint, so I like the question.

5
Tiralreply
lemmy.world

A lot. EU has fairly shit power generation. For example if France and Spain citizens had access to window air conditioners it would have overloaded the grid by like 2x. Now you want to plug in a hundred thousand cars that are way worse?

-3

I know that without the energy France sells to my country, Italy, we'd be fucked. And much of our goods are (idiotically) transported on the road via semis, so no diesel would be a disaster. And making new railways is an... interesting challenge in a country that's mostly mountains.

2
lemmy.world

What's the source for this? I didn't realize the power grid was so fragile in the EU. I thought most EU citizens with cars these days drive EVs already.

3

Of course I can't speak for the entirety of Europe, but EVs have not taken over. They are more common in some places rather than others and they're slowly getting more popular, but they're not the majority.

Also, at least at a local level, the power infrastructure is not really a problem and is improving. In my particular city, where it used to be confortable enough during the summer to not require AC, people have been installing AC units en masse some years ago, creating a sudden load on the network and causing outages. Over the past few years they're getting less and less frequent. This summer the power didn't go out once. Now the cost is another matter entirely, due to idiotic decision by several incompetant politicians.
