“I think there are things about the world that make feel like not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us,” Vance added.

Oh, you're so close, J D

Fascinating enough, this might be actually "ok" by they are in the accelerationist camp, then the anti christ is a good thing. They think the world is beyond saving and thus the faster the end times come, the better.

3
lemmy.world

Which is ironically so far from the text of the religion that one might even call it antichristianity

4

I feel like I'm going full-circle around from my crises of faith into feeling exactly that way

1

From my experiences growing up in a religious family that was complicit/adjacent to this mindset, I am all but convinced this is exactly what they feel

Upvoted but you really should take them at face value on the revelations talk. They're not fucking joking.

edit: JD might be lying (IMO he's not) but his audience believe it 100% and they're being stoked towards violence at the institutional level https://streamable.com/2yj2tj (Link valid until 41 hours after this post. Download and share plz)

When I say take them at face value, it's cuz we're talking about people who literally believe God will call them to genocide you. IYKYK

feddit.uk

He's not talking about what he believes, he's a nihilist. He's saying what would have to be true to justify what he plans to do. Rolling coal, probably do some nuclear sabre rattling, do some ethnic cleansing sort of thing, you know.

9
Canacondareply

He's not talking about what he believes, he's a nihilist

Respectfully disagree based on my personal experience being raised in a church that was very focused on revelations. IMO you'd have to grow up believing it yourself to understand.

He's saying what would have to be true to justify what he plans to do.

Yea their logic is circular but I promise you they fucking believe this shit.

Barring specific evidence to the contrary, both Occam & Halon's razers apply here. It is both a simpler explanation that he believes the scriptures in his religion AND there is no malice required for stupidity to explain what he's saying.

I'm not saying JD is above lying to his followers and faking faith. But I am saying that I don't think he's smart enough to do that and he's probably 100% serious.

This revelations talk is conditioning them towards violence.

https://streamable.com/2yj2tj

19

Absolutely. I think his personal beliefs are not the dangerous part here. Its the beliefs of his cristo-fascist followers he's tapping into that worry me.

10
lemmy.world

Not someone who grew up in one of those churches, but please don't sleep on the previous person's comment. Whether or not couch fucker believes what he says, there are more than enough idiots in their inner circle that do believe it (or are at least willing to go with it for the power) for that not to matter. And even side stepping on whether or not the people in the inner circle believe it, a fuck ton of stupid americans in bumblefuck USA absolutely do and are more than willing to partake in violence and justify it with religion or end times rhetoric, and will likely support them while they violate every maxim of christianity.

And just to tie in a very large media story, the Nat-Cs believe that the end times will come when the jews finally have their homeland back. So support for Israel can be drummed up in bumblefuck USA by tying this to the bible and making people thing that supporting Israel in their genocide is something akin to a crusade and something that god wants them to do.

And friend, if you don't think they can control how a large swath of stupid christians think, look into what they thought of abortion back in the 50s and 60s, and how quickly sentiment turned when the right turned abortion into their culture war wedge issue.

9

If you think I'm sleeping on anything, I haven't explained my position clearly. I will try: I studied psychology and I understand how dark triad personalities interact with authoritarian followers, and I saw the present dangers well enough to leave the country half a decade ago. Yes while Biden was still in office, yes during a pandemic with a toddler in tow. I saw all of this coming. Escape if you can, I don't know when the story ends but it isn't a happy ending. I know how they tick, and I know the history of how we got to this point. Quick math, shit is fucked. The empire is fucked, and maybe it could have been saved in a thousand small ways over hundreds of years, but it wasn't and here we are.

My only point originally was that Vance is, in my opinion, not a true believer. Just like Trump, whose only belief is that "I am the shit"; I don't think Vance even believes that, I think he's a cynical lowlife fuck who will say anything to get what he wants because he used to be poor and now all he wants is to feel powerful and safe no matter who it hurts. Probably his wife is cut from the same cloth, on paper she looks smarter than him but probably compromised to feel safe. He could have had an ounce of class consciousness, empathy, or personal integrity, but instead he just sucks a fat shit every chance he gets. He's spent his entire tenure as VP being Trump's heel, looking bad whenever Trump needs someone to pull aggro. Vance thinks he can play Wormtongue and wait for his chance to wield power. Dude was an atheist (when honesty cost him nothing) and hell, he might be the only motherfucker who converted to Catholicism in all of 2019. I've got his number, Vance is no true believer, he is a poseur down to his core.

His followers mostly are true believers, sure. Of course. If Trump told them the sky was communist, they'd say "how high?". They're idiots, or in academic language "authoritarian follower-type personalities". They compartmentalise their beliefs, exhibit relatively low logic and memory with regard to how badly their beliefs work as predictive models, and they avoid introspection like the plague (if MAGA cultists could be relied upon to avoid plagues, that is). They live to be told who the enemy is, how the enemy are not as human, and they delight to hear how badly the enemy is suffering whether it is true or not. That's all they really care about is to be told "the bad guys are dying and they suck, yay!"

I see the danger, and I see them in high resolution clarity. I don't even know what the newest absurdly beyond-human-perception screen format is called these days, but it's that.

Long story short, a perfect red heifer is needed to purify clergy in order for the 3rd temple to be consecrated. The only problem is that there's kinda an important mosque sitting where that temple would be.

Mike Johnson also all tied up in this.

They are trying to cause mass death. This isn't something I'm pulling out of thin air. They are child rapists AND they are genocidal maniacs. Two things CAN be true.

If anyone is defending them you are by saying that we should only focus on child abuse.

At this point I don't think the files would change anything. Everyone already suspects they are rapists and their followers have proven time and time again that they are willing to turn a blind eye to any and all deplorable behavior.

They don't know what the end times actually is/entails.

If you ask them for a proper explanation they can not answer beyond the fairy tale that they are taught.
But a specific thing grounded in reality they can not point to, and if they're called evil for wanting harm on millions of people you can see them think "how do I declare the victims to be evil?".

I'm convinced there currently are some in the US government who are so delusional that they think they in-person are one of the four horsemen personified....

5

Even worse, they don't even have a decent definition of "God". If they say something like that they worship "the God of Abraham" or "Yahweh" or "Jehovah", that's about as good as they can do to actually describe "God", just giving it a name.

If you ignore names and just ask them to describe "God" by its attributes, and get really into details, you'll find that no two Christians believe in the same god, and in fact, somehow, the "God" they describe will closely reflect their own beliefs more than anything else.

5

You know here in Australia, people have tried to "cure" religions they don't agree with. White people have tried to exterminate Aboriginal religions. Because these religions were seen as dangerous and primitive.

Personally, I think taking people's religions away from them on a massive population level is genocide. Aboriginal Australians have faced genocide for their religion. And to Me, this meme looks like a call to genocide.

3

To me it really doesn’t look like a call to genocide. In a democracy like Australia, religion is being defeated gradually by education, rational debate, and mockery when all else fails.

2
pawb.social

White people have tried to exterminate Aboriginal religions. Because these religions were seen as dangerous and primitive.

That was ethnic cleansing using religion as an excuse. That's not the same as doing away with religion. If your actual target is religion there's no reason to mistreat people.

Nope. The other way around. They're all praying for the Rapture and the 2nd coming...which all goes hand-in-hand with the end of the world. Heaven on Earth can't happen until God wipes the world clean, leaving only the righteous to inherit what's left.

This is why they support Israel unconditionally. Not because they love Jews...but because Jews need to return to Israel in order to start the final battle between good and evil. That's how they interpret the Book of Revelations. It's all Biblical end-times prophecy coming true, and they see it as their religious duty to make sure it all happens as predicted.

6

I stand corrected. I looked it up, and it is a doomeday cult. Death cults can very different . Its a type of death cult.

i had an interesting conversation with someone who i had viewed as a mentor growing up. we both walked away wondering where we'd lost the other one. in summary we were talking about deepwater horizon, as it was current news at the time. they mentioned that the world had to basically be destroyed before jesus came back so why bother. i told them in the language of the cult we'd been raised together in that weren't we supposed to take care of the environment? (and everyone clapped i'm sure, we were blocking half an aisle in costco).

but like, if i could rip a bandaid and make everything as magical as they believe it will be, i'd go for it. just, shit ain't squeeze that way.

Christianity turned to the anti-Christ in the 2nd century, with the doctrine that everything in the bible must be true, but what is chronologically first is more true than all corrections that were provided afterwards including by Jews in 1st temple, but more aggressively by Jesus. Arguably, Usha makes Vance easier to control by the HF. At the drop of a pin, Vance will be labled a race traitor.

Ernst Röhm became too powerful and was a fool to believe he was an "exception" to Hitler's calculations of power. Rohm started advocating for social reforms and things that would weaken the wealthy and powerful.

Most people only know them from "the national prayer breakfast" something most of our politicians (regardless of party) attend and is treated like an official event and not pancakes with a death cult for our nations leaders.

End-times fascism - the alliance, explained by Astra Taylor and Naomi Klein, between technology, fascism, and faith.

It is an ideology in which this motley crew shares a fundamental premise: this world can no longer be saved, and only a certain type of human may and can survive the downfall of our world.

In climate disasters, wars, pandemics, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the end-times fascist sees not only threats, but precisely also welcome, sacred signs confirming their conviction that the apocalypse is approaching, and of the urgency to gather their in-group. And where most people want to prevent the Doomsday Clock from actually striking twelve, the end-times fascist would rather press the accelerator, while quickly loading their select in-group into the trunk before setting course for bunker safety, divine salvation, or Mars. After all: someone convinced that the world is doomed anyway has little reason to protect it, and mostly just wants to get out.

'To even describe this worldview makes you sound a little bit insane,' Astra Taylor tells us. And indeed: her story sounds like a bad conspiracy theory, but it is not. It is an uncomfortable truth in which the main players often possess billions of dollars, power, and access to the technology of tomorrow. The fact that the most powerful and wealthy people on Earth adhere to this ideology doesn't exactly help. Certainly not when they no longer try to prevent disasters, but concern themselves solely with the question of who is allowed to survive... Fortunately, there is still, somewhat, hope. Just listen to Astra.

About Astra Taylor The Canadian-American writer is known for her socially critical books. In her work, Taylor refers to hopeful alternatives and advocates a different approach to our planet. In addition, Taylor writes for The New Yorker and The New York Times, and received an American Book Award. Besides her literary work, Taylor has also made several documentaries and is one of the founders of the organization Debt Collective.

Are americans bringing business and profit to a standstill yet? Didnt think so xd At least Carney had the balls to declare war and to target goods from swing states for tarrifs

Okay, so let's bring the end times to the Republicans. Since they want to die so badly, I'm happy to oblige.

You heard them, we can now bring about their end without worrying about it. They consented.

JD does not believe this, of course. He is just tellin' 'em what they want to hear. If you offer JD a shiny quarter, he will assume any position or belief you require. When Trump is finally hanging from a lamppost (and oh god, let that day come soon), JD will go right back to saying that he was against Trump from the beginning.

Is that not what the US is doing now? They will vote GOP if the candidate went live on international news performing the most vile act anyone can imagine. Because they are in their end game.

As a side not for everyone. All religions were designed to get rid of the masses once we have the means for it. It was tried multiple times in the past but now we are reaching a stage where the military industry has the technology to “bring gods from the heavens”. There will be 2 kinds, the ones who accept their faith and “will be sent to heaven” and those who oppose and will be slaughtered just like the rest.

They will bring the biblical events to life through technology, get rid of the masses and have this heaven for themselves.

Well it's not gonna happen yet. They almost bred the perfect red heifer in Texas, but when they sacrificed it they found a couple of black hairs.

So it's gonna be a while longer before the prophecy can be fulfilled.

Vote Republican to end America!!!

Dems are too much pussies to kill you all.

Of course he is. That's when Jesus comes back, that's what they're waiting for.

Then, they will be whisked up to Heaven, and Jesus and friends will MURDER EVERYBODY and cast them all into Hell for eternal torture.

This is Christianity; like all Abrahamic faiths, they revel in the slaughter of unbelievers. They always have and they always will.

Tax free!

Hi.

Atheist here.

This is bad.

But understandable. Christians are ok with this because they think they're going to go to heaven and be with God and bask in his ever lasting glory or some shit.

Hope they haven't been wearing mixed cloth clothing or shaved their beards.

That means that report of them thinking they are doing some type of holy war thing was true.
