In Star Citizen, you cycle the camera with F4. I've gotten a few people by telling them alt reverses the cycle direction.

Some games instantly ban you from chat if you write alt f4 as an anti-hazing measure. I, being of patrician’s taste, ask in global chat for the command to close a window and giddily watch as microphone icons disappear from the player list.

A blacklist for words is such a lazy solution, lol.

I remember back in the old days of Westwood, their online games had a strict list of bannable words, and it was always fun to bait people into using them with seemingly innocent questions. "Hey, I'm doing a history report on WWII, does anyone know the name of the leader of the SS? Himm-something?"

Some poor schmuck: "You mean Himmler?"

User "Poor Schmuck" has been banned for 6 hours.

Even funnier when the devs or admins strolled by and offered a simple “lol” immediately after the ban. Very goofy times.

Plenty of games have a little pop-up window that says "are you sure you want to exit?" when you press Alt+F4. That's a much more elegant solution than banning the phrase.

That's just stupid, it is stupid prank but ultimately harmless.

I can almost guarantee there are more important things they should be worrying about.

Getting kids, and the bait takers were overwhelmingly children, to recognize the value in avoiding internet people felt like more good than harm. Plenty of casual bigots. Feeling welcome among them is unhealthy

Isn't that the cheat code in Starcraft to get naked Kerrigan pics on Bnet?

I once asked for a niche camera control shortcut and someone said "Alt + the external view button" and I tried it before realizing that the external view button was F4 :/

Setting: Napster Chat c. 1999

User: Why is my download so slow?

Me: If you hold CTRL+ALT and tap DEL as fast as you can it’ll speed it up

Windows 98:
CTRL+ALT+DELx1 = Task Manager
CTRL+ALT+DELx2 = Immediate Reboot

Half the chat: *Disappears*

Anyone remembers the paladin who setup group select key binds with Alt+F1-F5 and was complaining, that selecting the fourth member always crashed the game?

Not a bad meme, but it feels like the Venn diagram of people who have been playing 50+ years, know about the Alt-F4 prank, and can’t figure out how to reload would be a pretty tiny overlap…

19

Can't think of an instance of reload, but I have had issues with melee, grenade, interact, hook, etc in more than a few games

There was a time where Source games had "Quit game" bound to F10 per default

Was a fun time, when you could tell people to press F10 to open the cheat menu or start a votekick

In Factorio you can enter this cmd prompt via powershell to unlock a special game mode.

systemreset - factoryreset

If you don't speak French, you can remove the French language pack from your Linux install with sudo rm -fr

You'd be amazed how much space the french language pack takes up! I was able to reduce my HDD usage to almost zero with this one simple trick!

1

I mean I like their toast but that language pack is just too big

My fucking boomer dad was the first to hit me with this back in the early 90s. Told me the god mode code in Doom was ctrl+alt+delete. This was back before it asked for any confirmation and just restarted the machine instantly. I ended up doing it 3 times in a row before I realized what was going on.

bummer, dude. it activates after the fourth time.

I'm actually trying to remember when I first learned the real code. I jist remember trying to use Doom's godmode code in Heretic, where instead of becoming immortal, the game kills you with a message like "you've DOOMed yourself."

You reached the end
